Ortiz de Rozaz palace
"I think Gonzalo Martin is committing treason and betraying you..."
Madrid came back to his senses when he heard a knock from the door of his room. He just got finished showering and was now changing into his clothes. "Come in." He said out loud.
Pumasok kaagad si Gonzalo.
Gonzalo bowed his head first. "Ipinatawag niyo po raw ako, Sir."
"Yes," he replied while buttoning his sleeves. "I'm going to Mendez de Sotomayor later, I'll be away the whole day from the city. Sa gabi na ako makakabalik."
"I see," sagot nito habang tumatango. "Do you have anything that you want me to do, Sir?"
"Nothing. You've been working so hard for me every day, have your day off today," Madrid replied to the old man. Hinarap niya ito. The wrinkles around Gonzalo's forehead is really visible. If he remembered it correctly, Gonzalo is already in the middle 60's and yet, he's still working for the royal family.
Like him, Gonzalo's wife already died way before he even met Sofia Elena. Matagal na panahon na rin itong biyudo. Wala rin itong naging anak sa yumaong asawa. All his life, Gonzalo Martin focused on serving the royal family. Madrid's father, King Julian, was never a good father to him. Gonzalo took the part of his father's role of being a parent to him. Even though he wasn't the perfect son, even though he got into troubles a lot, Gonzalo Martin was the only father figure that he had during his teenage years... and until now.
"I think Gonzalo Martin is committing treason and betraying you..."
But the Prime Minister's words kept replaying in his mind.
"Gonzalo, thank you."
Gonzalo looked at him, confused. "For what, Sir?"
"For being a good father to me..." He answered. "Since I was young, you're always been there, taking the role of my own father of being a parent to me and to my older sister."
Gonzalo's eyes softened at him, giving him a warm smile. "You don't need to thank me, your grace. Parang na rin kayong mga anak ko. Kayong dalawa ni Princess Tamara. You too, you're like a son to me."
"You didn't leave my side when I lost my wife... when I lost everything that I've got, you stayed. You're the only person who stayed this longer, Gonzalo."
