(y/n)'s POV
Anakin and I were now sitting up as we faced each other, but his eyes were on the floor as he spoke, "I didn't mean to do it," He breathed a sigh - holding his knees to his chest, "A former friend and I used to get into a lot of trouble together not long after my mom died. I lost myself in my grief and became stupid and rebellious." He glanced up to meet my concentrated gaze, "One day he wanted to get back at a store clerk for nearly getting him arrested, so he asked me to help 'scare him'." He used air finger quotes as he spoke, "He swore to me that the gun wasn't loaded, and I was too high on drugs to even bother to check if he was telling the truth or not." He rolled his eyes at his own stupidity and I felt my palms growing sweaty, already suspecting where this story was going, "Well, one thing led to another, and I pulled the trigger - obviously thinking that I was only going to make him shit himself and that nothing bad was actually going to happen.""You shot him." I whispered, although it was more of a clarifying statement to myself than anything else.
He nodded as he dropped his legs down and placed his hand on his abdomen, "Right about here," He informed me, "My former friend eventually ran off when I refused to leave. I stayed to nurse the clerk; crying and apologizing to him, telling him that I didn't know it was loaded and never had the intention of hurting him." I could hear it in his voice that he wanted to cry at the memory, but he was holding it in to appear strong in-front of me, "Thank god he survived since I was able to to slow his bleeding until the medics got there."
"So you saved his life?" I questioned positively.
He sighed as he glanced up at the ceiling for a moment before looking back to me, "Yes, but after nearly being the one to take it, so it's not something I should be praised for. But he was still grateful to me, and apparently that - along with my high rambles of self-guilt earned me his forgiveness. He and the cop on my case even tried getting my sentence reduced to only six months with probation and community service, just as long as I gave them the name of my former friend. They suspected that he took advantage of the state I was in and planned this whole time for me to kill the clerk without getting his own hands dirty."
"And judging by the fact that you were there for eighteen leads me to believe that you didn't give him up." I stated knowingly, and even slightly disappointedly, especially if that theory was correct - that 'friend' of his only used him.
He shook his head, "No, he's not a good person (y/n). So being on his list of vendettas is not somewhere I wanted to be. So I did my time, got out six months early on good behavior, and haven't spoken or been around him since."
I nodded in understanding, and I also felt a bit of relief. I was worried that he did something horrible, and was the kind of person who held no remorse for whatever it was. But it's clear to me that Anakin isn't at all a bad person, he made a mistake that he regrets, and even did his best to fix it, he kept that man from dying. While also being the victim of someone's else's manipulation. He did his time, and still currently suffers through the memory - so there's no way in hell that I'm going to judge him or make him feel any worse about himself. So I did the first thing that came to mind, I reached forward and placed my hand in his in hopes of bringing him comfort.
He eyed my action with surprise, almost like he expected me to do the complete opposite, "If you're wondering if I see you any differently, or like you any less; the answer is no. I'm just sorry that you went through all of that - it must've been difficult."
