Still 3 Years Ago..

Hazel's POV

My eyes fluttered open and I looked up into Axe's cold blue eyes. My hands were folded on my stomach and my shoulder still throbbed. I took a glance at it and it was bandaged up. I then looked back at Axe.

He smirked and I gave him a hint of a smile. "Did you do that?" I croaked. "Yes, I did." He grinned triumphantly. "You did quite a nice job, I must say," I commented, giggling.

He scrubbed my head with his hand and laughed, kneeling next to the bunk. "Looks like we're not going anywhere." He admitted. I exhaled, squirming to move, but I knew better. A rush of blood to my head and I would knock out again.

"Where would we have gone?" I asked. "The Farm, if you wanted to." He replied. I nodded slowly in approval. He was being so sweet, however, the first time I met him he held a knife to my neck. I rubbed the side of my face.

"Something wrong?" He asked. I shrugged and closed my eyes.

"I'm a bit tired." I lied, rubbing the side of my neck. His face softened and he cleared his throat, scanning my face for emotion. I simply stared right back at him. He nodded and got up, climbing on the top bunk. "What are you.." I stammered.

"I'm sleeping above you in case you need me." He said, peeking down.

"Not to be rude, but why are you being so nice to me? You just met me today." I said. He stared at me before saying

"You showed me compassion. You showed me I could trust you." He hesitated before smirking. "I like your spunk, kid." I let out a laugh, holding my hand over my mouth.

"You have a beautiful smile." He laughed. I twitched and felt my chest tighten. He moved just a millimeter closer and smirked, "You know, your face is really red right now."

I rubbed my face in embarrassment and he grabbed my hands, pulling them from my face and kissed me with all he had.

My eyes widened and I squirmed a bit, my skin crawling. His eyes compared nothing with his lips. They were warm and reminded me of the summer days when the apocalypse was just a figment of the imagination. I closed my eyes and kissed back, running my hand through his hair. He wrapped his arms around my thin waist and I wrapped mine around his neck, continuing to make out with him.

There was a pound on the door which startled me, and I ended up breaking the kiss, coughing and shaking. Axe put his hand on my shoulder which sort of calmed me, and ran to the door, pulling his pistol. I coughed, "Don't you dare.." He sighed and dropped the gun, unsheathing his sword. "Better?"

"Better," I said.

He grinned and opened the door, shutting it behind him. I heard another door unlatch near the back. My chest tightened and I burrowed into the bed, holding my breath. The person was male. He walked by and stared at me. At me. His arm swung and he cracked his fire-axe into the bars.

I screamed.

I scrambled for my gun. Then the picture of my heel ramming into it flashed across my mind. I growled and pulled my switchblade. I knew I had no chance against this guy. A fire-axe versus a switchblade. I would never win. A figure slammed into the man's side, making him skid across the pavement. I got to my feet and ran to the door. Of course, it was jammed. I kicked at the hole that the man made with his axe to try to make it bigger, I tried slipping through the hole and heard a click, feeling a gun get pressed against my head.

That's when I saw him.

Axe was standing there in silence. My eyes searched for his. His chest was rising up and down ever so slightly. The man that had the gun to my head grinned at him and glanced at me. "This your girlfriend?" He purred.

"She has the potential to.." He growled under his breath. My ears perked and my heart started beating fast. His arms tightened and he glanced at me, desperate to keep me alive. His eyes pierced through my soul and I began squirming in panic. The man grabbed me by the throat and held me in the air. I gagged and let out a wince.

I saw black spots scatter across my vision. He was breaking my neck. I was too weak to kick him.. I choked out, "Axe..!"

"Aw how cute." The man growled. "You there. Pass your weapons and I'll put her down. I came here to overrun this place and I damn know how to do it." I was losing oxygen. Fast. I let out another choke when the man slammed me into the wall and shouted, "Keep quiet!"

"Don't you touch her!" Axe yelled and pulled his revolver, pulling back the hammer and aiming at him. "Put her down." He growled. The man looked at him and dropped me. I winced and gasped, coughing and sputtering, clutching my throat. Then the man pulled me up and stuck my own switchblade to my throat. I flinched and stared at him, shaking.

I swallowed at looked down at my toes. "We've reached a stalemate. Pass the weapons over, mate." The man said with no expression in his tone.

Axe made a choking sound, his eyes darting between us. That's when the man pressed the switchblade against my neck, breaking the skin. I winced. Axe ran and dropkicked the man in the side. The switchblade released and slid across the concrete. I ran and grabbed it, whipping towards them. The man slammed Axe to the ground.

"R-Run!" Axe choked out. I twitched before running into the other and kicking open a seat, pulling a revolver from underneath. I turned back around, seeing the man raise the switchblade with a crazed look in his eyes. I loaded the revolver and pulled back the hammer, aiming at his hand.

Suddenly my hand began to shake and I couldn't even wrap my finger around the trigger. I swallowed, looking at it. I almost dropped it, but I gathered myself and looked back up, wrapping my finger around it, and pulling back, the bullet shooting the blade out of his hand. It blasted off two of his fingers.

He screamed and held his hand. Axe shot up and roundhouse kicked him on the ground. He kicked him in the stomach and got up, running to me. He picked me up, slinging me over his shoulder, running for the door. He stumbled and I dropped the revolver. I screamed.

Axe looked back at me, "What?" He yelled. "The revolver!" I yelled back. He looked forward, picking up his speed. He got to the gate and looked back at the prison. I saw the man there. He grinned and picked up the revolver, dropping a bullet in the chamber and pulled back the hammer, aiming at us.

"Axe!" I yelled. He looked back and put me in front of him. On the opposite side of the man. I heard a bullet be shot, but I never saw it. Axe ran into the forest and set me down in some weeds, concealed by trees. He dropped to his knees and brushed his thumbs across my cheeks. "Axe?" He didn't respond. A tear fell down his cheek and his chest stopped rising at falling.

That's when he collapsed into me. My eyes widened when I saw the bullet in his back.
