Another incredible interview with another incredible writer yet again, i-imagine-dragons. She's also known as Niya. It was a pleasure getting to interview her. Here's how it went.
Interviewer: Would you mind telling the audience a little bit about yourself?
Niya: I'm Nana Yaa. Most people call me NY or Niya. I'm 16 years old and a proud citizen of Ghana 🇬🇭. I'm currently a first-year student studying science at Holy Child School Cape Coast. I love books and crime movies. Music is my life, fashion and art are also my favourites.
Interviewer: Oh, how nice. That's very impressive.🙂
Niya: Thank you❤
Interviewer: Welcome, dear. What's does literary success mean to you?
Niya: Writing and publishing books that my readers would find interesting and intriguing. It also means to me, writing a book that stands out among literary fiction.
Interviewer: Okay. What kind of research do you do and how long do you spend researching before beginning a book?
Niya: I look at my characters first. I look at how their perfections and flaws would affect the plot of the book. Do they learn something new in the course of the book? Are there any bad situations they find themselves in? After this, I look at important scenarios to take place in the book, these scenarios are just ideas that pop into my head when I'm lost in thought.
Interviewer: How do you select the names of your characters? Do you just choose them at random as they pop up in your head or do you have a specific method of selecting them?
Niya: No, I don't have a specific method of choosing names. I just pick anything that sounds nice to my ears☺. It's on rare occasions that I would search up names with strong meanings about the characters.
Interviewer: 😄. Same here. Any beautiful name sounds good to me, although sometimes I try to choose names that would go in line with the character, like one of my unpublished stories titled 'YEMISI' meaning 'Cherish Me'. Pardon, I digressed.
Niya: No probs 😉.
Interviewer: 😇. Do you view writing as a kind of spiritual practice?
Niya: No, it's a hobby. Nothing spiritual included.
Interviewer: Alright what's your favourite childhood book? Do you have any special book that was very dear to you when you were little?
