When Wen Kexing woke up, he was alone.Laid on the floor, his outer robe draped over his naked body. Slowly he got up, realizing with a blush that Zhou Zishu had no doubt cleaned him up before he left, no feeling of stickiness down there as he had expected. Gathering his robe before moving to grab his other discarded articles of clothing, he pouted with a wince at the feeling of soreness, rubbing at his backside.
"Bully," Wen Kexing smiled despite it, already missing the man who made him feel worthy of being alive.
Curiously, Wen Kexing rummaged through the clothes, throwing them up and allowing wisps of crimson red to catch them and shake them out.
Nothing.
Huh.
Wen Kexing had the clothes fall back into his arms, guided by the red wisps and furrowed his brows.
Where was his red ribbon?
----
A few months later, just shy of turning nineteen, the little town he lives in was attacked, his people slaughtered by laughing men in red robes and ghost-like masks.
Wen Kexing does nothing to save them.
Instead, he hides in his closet, found by a woman in red with hair as white as his own.
She kneels down in front of him, chances a glance at his own white locks.
"I see," Her eyes find his, "Are you like me, Wen Kexing?"
Wen Kexing looks above her own white hair and sees in a red glow, Luo Fumeng.
In eleven years from now, she will die.
"Luo Fumeng," Wen Kexing whispers, knowing this is what she would most likely want to hear as proof. Her lips painted red smile, and her eyes soften just a bit. Wen Kexing really had put everything he could to look as docile as possible and it must have worked since she seemed to have let her guard down a bit.
"I thought I was alone," Wen Kexing continued, and this was true, never before had he thought any other like him existed.
Luo Fumeng takes his hand in hers and helps him up. She guides him out, holds him close as they walk, her hand in his like his mother would, holding him close so he would not get lost.
Wen Kexing is under her protection. The Ghost Valley Master does not fight her on this, does not care enough to do so. They leave after the blood bath, Wen Kexing tucked securely to her side.
He drinks the Water of Lethe.
And Wen Kexing does not forget.
----
Wen Kexing meets a little girl when he's inside Luo Femeng's mansion. She sees his hair and smiles widely.
"You look like Auntie Luo!"
Wen Kexing shows her his red wisps, they form into rabbits that jump in the air all around her. She claps happily, twirls around to follow them, and plays the role of a predator trying to catch her prey.
