Wen Kexing shifted as he turned in the bed, burrowing closer to the warmth of Zhou Zishu's embrace. He can feel the other man shift at his movement as well, a soft pair of lips lightly touching his forehead, the arms holding him close tightening momentarily.
"What's wrong?" Zhou Zishu muttered, voice thick with sleep.
"Nothing," Wen Kexing whispered back. Though they finally had a room to themselves after nearly a month of staying within the Four Seasons Manor, talking in whispers during the fall of the night had become a habit, "It's a bit chilly is all."
Zhou Zishu hummed, a hand coming up to lightly play with a lock of Wen Kexing's hair, "Winter should be starting officially within the next month, it's no surprise that the days and nights will soon start to grow colder. We'll get warmer robes and thicker blankets sometime this week for preparation."
"My husband is so smart," Wen Kexing mocks, laughing a little when Zhou Zishu tugged a bit at the loose lock of short silver hair he held within his grasp. The strands framing his face were not long enough to be in the braid Zhou Zishu had given him, "My husband is so mean."
"My wife speaks too much," Zhou Zishu sighed, pressing his lips upon Wen Kexing's forehead once more, "Go back to sleep, you have three hungry kids to feed tomorrow morning."
Wen Kexing scoffed, his heart fluttering at the words of kids being addressed as his own, "What am I, their servant?"
"You're their mother, now sleep," Zhou Zishu hushed, settling against Wen Kexing.
It's been weeks since Wen Kexing can now fully relax within his hold and it's still so surreal to have Zhou Zishu so soft and so initiative. Unlike before, Wen Kexing doesn't even have to try to get Zhou Zishu's attention, now it seemed so acutely set on him that it made him feel all types of nervous and shy.
It felt too much like a dream.
Wen Kexing was scared at the possibility that he might wake up.
____
Wen Kexing thanks Zhou Zishu as he accepted the cup of tea handed to him, keeping his eyes on the knife that chopped away - guided by the red wisps that connected the knife to Wen Kexing's fingers, a line of red energy like a string attaching the two despite being a few distances away.He blew on the tea a bit before taking a sip, humming in acknowledgment when Zhou Zishu hugged his waist from behind, nuzzling his face against the back of Wen Kexing's neck. A kiss was gently placed against the exposed skin, his silver locks having been pulled up into a bit of a messy bun.
"A' Xu, you'll distract me if you keep doing that," Wen Kexing huffed when another kiss touched the back of his neck again, "Go wake up the kids and tell that they better be bathed before coming to eat."
"Yes, dear," Zhou Zishu teased, sleep still thick in his voice. The fool was insistent on waking when Wen Kexing did, stating that he wanted to be conscious whenever Wen Kexing was.
What a silly, foolish man.
"And if you let A' Xiang sleep until breakfast is ready again, you'll be sleeping alone tonight," Wen Kexing warned, the knife gave a rather hard chop after these words like it was further trying to prove his point of how serious he was being, "In one of the guest rooms, no less."
"Wait, but we sleep in my room," Zhou Zishu pointed out, sounding like a disgruntled cat.
"I thought, in marriage, what's the husband's is all the wife's now too?" Wen Kexing innocently asked, giggling when Zhou Zishu pinched at his side in a pretty ticklish spot.
