Today was one of his better days.

Not only did Louis ace his French exam, but he got enough courage to go tell Miss Laura about the meatheads.

He had to do it before they actually got their way with him.

Even though it's been a couple of weeks since the incident in the alley, Liam kept apologizing and Louis could tell the guilt was eating him alive.

He had assured Liam countless of times that it wasn't his fault, but he beat himself up for it, muttering about how he 'should've been there' and 'I would've protected you from those bastards'.

He finally stopped ranting when Louis tackled him in a hug and told him to stop so they could go to a movie, pecking his cheek to seal the deal.

Kristen has always told him that Liam would be the perfect boyfriend for him,but Louis always has to remind her he's straight and taken.

Anyway, today during lunch, Louis shyly approached Miss Laura's room. She had left her classroom door slightly ajar and he could see her grading papers with her reading glasses perched on her nose.

He's always been timid when having to speak to adults, so he quietly shuffled in until she noticed someone was there.

"Oh, hello, Louis", she looked up and gave him a kind, crinkly smile, placing her glasses on the scrambled papers, "Why are you not at lunch? Is there anything I can help you with?"

"Y-yeah," Louis squeaked, "I need to talk to you about something."

"Then go ahead and have a seat."

He gulped nervously and sat at the desk closest to her, wringing down the sleeves of his sweater.

"Pray tell," she urged.

Louis sat there trying to find a way to begin, "Miss Laura.. You know I'm not like the other students, right?"

"Yes, I have noticed," she nodded, "You are very unique, and that's something you should never be ashamed of."

"Yeah, thank you.." he sighed, "but not everyone else feels the same. Um.. Miss Laura, I've been teased my whole life for being this way, but it's never been.. this bad," Louis watched how she leaned forward as her eyes softened and folded her hands in front of her, "And there's been some recent events that pushed it a bit far.. for me."

He went on to explain what happened, how he was physically and sexually assaulted by the upperclassmen, when it started, what they looked like, anything that could help his situation. Miss Laura kept telling Louis how brave he was to come to her like this, that she'd report this immediately.

She said, "As long as I'm still teaching at this school, those imbeciles won't come within ten feet of you."

He'd never had a teacher really care for him, a lot of them either ignored him or were disgusted because of their traditional thinking and such.

When Louis asked her why she cared so much, she told me with misty eyes that he reminded her of her nephew, Justin. Justin was transgender, and he ended up losing his life to a blade at age nineteen because of the rejection and abuse from both his peers and his parents.

He sat there and watched her dab her eyes with a tissue and after she composed herself, she smiled up at him reassuringly, "You can go along to your friends now, honey. Don't worry about those guys, I'll get that taken care of."

Louis thanked her profusely, shooting a kind smile back.

There needs to be more people like her on this earth.

It'd definitely make his nightmare of a life the least bit enjoyable.
