Annie's Pov:

Everything went black, all I could hear were sirens and familiar voices. "Annie! Annie!" I heard Adam's voice from the distance. I managed to open my eyes and saw I was on a stretcher, surrounded by nurses and doctors. "But she's my girlfriend!" I heard Adam shout from the distance. "A-Adam." I whispered. A paramedic shushing me. "Shhh. It's okay." "I need Adam." I held onto her arm. "Bring me Adam." She didn't reply. "Bring me Adam. Please." I said as loudly as I could, still only a whisper. She walked away and I couldn't open my eyes anymore, they were so heavy and drained.

Adams Pov:

"She's my girlfriend!" I was surrounded by her trainer, paramedics, Jack, Ryan, Marie and Isobel all telling me to stay here. I tried and tried to get to her. Paramedics were pulling onto my arms. I needed to know if she was okay. I pulled and pulled but they were just to strong together. A paramedic was approaching us. "Adam?" She said. The group stopped pulling. "Yes?" I replied. "Annie is asking for you, you may go in the ambulance with her." I didn't reply, I just ran as fast as I could to the ambulance and got in. I looked down at Anne, her face pale and bruised. I try to hold back tears but I couldn't. Seeing her like this. This was one of the most heart wrenching things i've ever seen. I didn't even tell her I loved her. Not properly. A huge weight fell onto my shoulders as I sat in the ambulance, awaiting arrival at the hospital.

Once we arrived at the hospital, Annie was wheeled away into a room and I was forced to wait in the waiting room. After a few minutes, a  nurse came over to me and told me they'd call me once she woke up. I gave her my number and she told me to go home, I protested, failing. "We will call you sir." The nurse said, pushing me out the room. "But can't I just-." "No you may not." She said, pushing me out the room and closing the door. I wanted to bang on the door and demand entry, but part of me knew it wouldn't help. I turned to walk out and called Jack, he answered instantly. "Are you okay? How is she?" He said. "I'm okay, I don't know about Annie though." I replied, now starting to cry again. "Adam are you at the hospital?" He asked, in an urgent voice. "Y-Yeah, hurry." I answered, the call ended and within minutes, Jack and Ryan pulled up. They ran out to me as I stood in the cold and the rain. I couldn't speak. They ran over and hugged me at the same time, I completely broke down. I began sobbing into their shoulders, screaming. "I can't do this. What if she's not okay? What if she won't be able to walk again? What if she's bedridden for the rest of her life?" I said between sobs. "Everything will always be okay." Jack said. "Things have a way of working out." Ryan added. "But that won't happen Adam. She's going to be just fine." Jack replied. "You don't know that." I pulled them even closer as I said it, almost suffocating them. We stood in silence for a few minutes before I pulled away and wiped my eyes. I pulled out a small box out of my jacket pocket. Jack and Ryan watched, Ryan tearing up. "It's a promise ring." I said as I opened the box, revealing a ring with a diamond bow on it. "I was going to give it to her after this race, but i wasn't able to." I bit my lip trying not to cry again. "It's beautiful." Jack said. I put on a smile as I shut the box and put it back into my pocket. "You should give it to her when you next see her." Ryan said as we walked to the car. "That's what I'm going to do, before I add an engagement ring in a few years." I smiled. They turned to me and smiled too as we set off to my apartment. "Wanna get some food on the way?" Jack asked, pulling into a mcdonald's. "No I'm okay." I replied, leaning on the window. "Adam you need to eat." Ryan said from the back. "I know. Just not right now." I answered. "Well I'm getting you some fries at least." Jack said, pulling up at the first window at the drive thru. I rolled my eyes at him. "You'll thank me later." He added.

We couldn't go anywhere where I wasn't reminded of her. Everywhere I looked there was a memory. Wether that was at McDonalds, after she won her last race, my bedroom, where we danced to our song, the race track. Everywhere. Once Jack had practically forced fries down me, we sat in the parking lot, waiting for a call from the hospital. "Maybe we should just-." Jack started, interrupted by my phone ringing. It was the hospital. I was hesitant to answer it just in case they told me that she didn't make it, but ryan answered for me. "Hello? Is this Adam Metzger?" A woman with a posh voice answered the phone. "Yes it is." I replied. "Good. You'll be pleased to hear that Miss Anne James can now have visitors. Please, only 3 at a time. She needs her rest." "I'll be straight there, thank you." She ended the call and Jack sped to the hospital. "Call us." Jack said as I got out. "Will do, and thanks." I shut the door and jogged to the entrance, speed walking to the main desk. "I'm looking for Anne James." "Ah yes. Adam, she's in room 207, Second left, third door on your right." She replied smiling. "Thanks." I walked as fast as I could to room 207, opening the door to reveal Anne in a hospital gown. Her whole body was bruised and she had a cast on her left arm and on her legs.
