Estelle was finishing up her shift at The Beanery when the door chimed open. It had been a week since she first walked through the doors of The Beanery and was allowed to work with Nona. Nona and Estelle had gotten closer due to the loneliness they have both experienced, allowing them to bond in a familial way.
Nona had experienced the loss of her husband and son from a tragic car accident. It was a drunk driver, and due to this, she went through a sad stage of depression. When she finally got back on her feet and began her healing, her business and finances took a big hit as she was running things independently. Large industrial coffee companies booming worldwide caused smaller businesses like cafes such as Nona's to be affected as well.
Nona took that in her stride, though and continued pushing through. There were still people that loved small cafes. Since Estelle had started her job, there had been an increase in customers just in the last week. According to Nona, it seemed that having someone young and beautiful made customers come back. Estelle found Nona absurd in that regard. "It's your wonderful coffee that brings them back, not me" Estelle always replied, making Nona laugh.
Due to this, Nona has had extra in her pocket for the first time in a long time. Estelle was delighted for her since it allowed Nona to get by and have the ability to do things with her life. Nona offered to pay Estelle with some of the extra, but Estelle had refused completely. Luckily there was a system called tipping, and Estelle could get by with that alone leaving Nona with the excess. 'She deserves it with all the compassion she has', Estelle thought with a grateful heart.
She turned from the last table she was wiping down and froze when she saw the man at the counter. 'It's the strange man from the other night', she understood with surprise.
He turned his head and tilted back in mild shock as he regarded her. He had the same thought running through his own head. "It's you, that same girl that was passed out. I didn't know you worked here?"
Estelle's shrugged in response and answered, "Nona needed some help, so I volunteered. It's all still a bit new."
The man nodded in understanding. "Estelle, was it? You feel better from before?"
Estelle nodded in affirmation before asking, "I completely forgot to ask for your name when you found me. What is it?"
He smirked and grunted, "I'm Shota Aizawa. My hero name is EraserHead."
Nona had returned from the back with Aizawa's order, and he raised his hand to pay. He thanked Nona for the coffee and turned towards the exit. "You wanting to be a hero kid?" He asked out of curiosity, one hand holding the door open.
Estelle looked down at her tablecloth and bit her lip. "Yeah, but I also want to stay here and help Nona out. She's helped me a lot, and it's unfair of me to just leave her like that."
Aizawa sighed out loud. It seems that this kid was too caring for her own good. "Alright, kid, better make your decision soon. The entrance exams are only a week away. If you make it in, though, I'll see what I can do about making that work."
Estelle's head shot up in disbelief, but before anything could be said, she realised that he was already gone. Nona looked towards Estelle in amazement at her selfless thoughts and smiled to herself. She realised that she really did find a good kid to take in.
-_-
Estelle spent the next week helping Nona look after the cafe and finding out more about the world she now inhabits. It would do nobody any good if she went to a school of heroes and had no idea how something mundane worked. She found that this world was a lot more technologically advanced than the previous one. They had mobile phones to communicate freely, and the metal carriages were actually called cars.
