Estelle was still recovering from the festival yesterday. She didn't remember the last time she had smiled that much. Yes, she had a fantastic time with the animals, but it was an internal joy. This felt different as she watched the little girl who beamed beautifully. It was like Eri forced Estelle to follow along unconsciously; it was strange for the teen.
She was spending some time with the class as they enjoyed this weeks sugertime. She was sitting by Momo as they discussed Nona's cafe and the different types of tea and coffee they preferred. The class had pretty much ignored them for that conversation, a sweatdrop over their heads when they realised they couldn't understand a word that they were saying.
It was only when Kirishima had stepped forward, his plate of sweets in his hands, that Estelle looked up for the female next to her. Raising an inquisitive brow, Kirishima blushed pink as his free hand rubbed the back of his neck. "Can I ask you something?"
Furrowing her brows at the nervousness of the redhead's face, Estelle gave a nod of agreement as the class began to notice the interaction. "So, uh, I'm not sure how to phrase this...."
"Are you okay?" Estelle asked in concern, her eyes scanning his frame to see if there was any indication of what he was talking about. Estelle was clueless; this was highly random.
"Huh?! Oh, yeah! Don't worry about me! It's just- I've been thinking about this lately, and I was wondering...At the fight during Kamino Ward, the gym and Pete leaving. I noticed that when spirits passed on, it was like they turned into dust. Why is that?"
Oh, that was not what Estelle was expecting. Nodding her head in agreement, Estelle gave a slight smile of praise. "You have a keen eye. Those connected to the spirit world do not die like normal humans whose bodies are laid to rest at a funeral. Instead, we fade, and we drift off into the afterlife."
The class were quiet as they listened to her words. They had noticed this fact themselves, but they never thought anything of it and just assumed it was another aspect of the spirit world that they did not understand. But why was Kirishima bringing this up?
"Well, you see. I kinda figured that. But, you're a Cambion, which means you're a part of the spirit world too, right?"
Giving Kirishima an inquisitive look, Estelle internally wondered why this was a question he was fretting about. Why did it matter how they went into the afterlife? Of all things to be concerned about, why this?
"Cambions are a little different since we still have some human in us. We fade out slower than full-fledged spirits or ghouls. It's why Cambions are dark spirits choice in dinner, well, besides the fact we taste good. Everyone else immediately fades out before they can even begin feeding. Why do you ask?"
"So, if something were to happen to you, you would just disappear?"
'Oh.'
"Yes, that is correct," Estelle murmured softly, her eyes flickering to the students with uneasiness.
Silence deafened the room as the students tried to comprehend Estelle's words.
"Wait, so that means we would never know?!?" Momo questioned with broadened eyes, finally snapping out of his stilled state. Her words seemed to have burst the rest of their class out of their own daze. Their voices raised as they immediately turned to each other in an attempt to be heard. Scowling at the noise, Estelle allowed herself a few moments to catch some of the words they were yelling.
"What the fuck?"
"I mean, it makes sense; it's not like she could be the exception to the rule."
