After the shock treatment things went by quite smoothly. Three appointments per week had now changed to meeting up whenever he needed her while Yuna wasn't working. These were actually pretty fascinating to the young Jungkook and Yuna too was quite satisfied with the results. Jungkook has known a lot about emotions, he felt a tiny bit of happiness here and there, well reading about emotions and realizing them themselves was quite a challenge towards him, who was forgotten by Emotion herself. He had to familiarize with this new notion in his life and be friends all together... He had to be-friend Emotion to feel what it really stood for.
Yuna and Jungkook had grown pretty close to each other now. He opened up a lot to her and she too answered him frankly with whatever he asked about her. Midnight calls about sudden heart ache while watching a horror number, ticklish feelings in his stomach when a pretty girl sat across him while in the library... well he pretty much had names for all of these feelings now that Yuna was his go-to encyclopedia.
She never complained. He deserved her attention... He was such a pretty soul who just did not know how to feel and because of this petty reason people around him viewed him as Persona non grata.
A Thursday afternoon... Jungkook and Yuna were as usual out for their appointment walking along the river-side, it was already Fall.
Yuna's phone rang...
' Honey can you please come back home... I know you're busy with the hospital and stuff but I guess we need you here. My delivery date was rescheduled and it's happening this Sunday... You promised you'll stay with me when I give birth and you know how much I rely on you in matters like this... Please can you come over...'
Charlotte was Yuna's best friend back in her home town and Yuna was sort of like her guardian angel since childhood. She just could not decline her offer and it was such a situation where she had already promised Charlotte that she'll stay by her in all of her important moments.
' Ohh I see.. okay ... Hang on I'll try to arrive by Saturday... I'll be there for sure-'
'Who's that ?' Jungook asked with a hint of hesitation in his voice.
' Oh it was my best friend.. She has her delivery rescheduled to this Sunday I have to leave for California by tomorrow afternoon... I guess I'll have to- '
'You'll not be here on Tuesday then...?'
' Tuesday... why wha-... ohh your brother's 10th year memorial rights right..? Ahh I am afraid no... I was supposed to attend but this came out of the blue. I hope you'll understand... please..? She needs me...'
Jungkook took a moment before replying.
Somehow that moment seemed like a lifetime to her. Her heartbeat fastened, she felt the tension in the air. She knew something's wrong... Something was off about the situation but she could not make out how... it seemed like he wanted to tell her something but he wasn't... no.. more than wasn't, it was like that he would not tell her.
'Ohh okay.. it's alright you can absolutely go... why will you ask me that?' saying that he laughed a little but that seemed more like a scoff.
She wasn't sure about it but it felt like he was disappointed, in a way unfamiliar to her. It wasn't how Jungkook usually looked like when he was disappointed... he pouted, squeezed his eyes and complained to her if anything did not feel right. But here he just sort of had a sort of an air around him that felt distant. It was like he was losing his support...
' Jungkook, I'll be back within a week and half.. I know you need me but she does too right? I can be with you over calls and texts but she needs my presence beside her. She relies on me just as you do and I do have a bigger responsibility when she thinks me as her guardian angel...'
'But I think that too...' he said so in the smallest of his voices that Yuna literally could not make out what he said even when she was literally standing almost beside him.
' Huhh..? I did not quite follow..'
' Nothing just said that take care there. It's a long flight...'
' Ohh yeah sure... You too.. Make sure to call and inform me about yourself okay..? Gotta go and pack now...'
' Yeah, see ya...' he smiled.
At this Yuna just smiled back a little at him and walked off, crossing the road to the bus stop, leaving Jungkook behind with an unreadable feeling in his chest.
'Please make sure to answer my calls... please...' he just drifted these words in the air where her perfume still lingered, waving at the fading Yuna among the evening crosswalk crowd...
