It had been three days since Gia had seen Bucky. He hadn't been in work and he hadn't been home. Gia knew that he was getting irritated with her and wanted to possess her, so why would he leave?

It was a Thursday and Gia was busy working through the finance sheets when she got a call from Becca. "RB Insurance this is Giannina" she answered. Even though she could see who was calling, Gia still had to remain professional. "Hey Gia.. You sound happy" it came out as more of a question than an observation.

"Should I not be?" Gia laughed as she balanced the land-line phone between her shoulder and her ear as she continued to type her work. Gia knew that she should feel worried for Bucky but she couldn't deny there was a part of her that enjoyed the quiet and calm.

Yes she missed him and wanted to be held in his arms and to kiss him but, she knew that with the way he was behaving it wouldn't be long before he was back to controlling what she did and where she went with who.

Besides, she knew Bucky would be safe. "Gia.. Have you seen the news?" Becca carefully asked, now sure that her best friend was unaware of what had happened. "I've sent you a link to an article on your email. Just.. Take some time to read it and when you have ring me back" she sighed and disconnected the call.

Gia was confused at her friends odd call but placed the phone back into the receiver. Gia opened up her email and clicked on the link that Becca had sent her, the cup of coffee she had in her hand falling to the ground. The cup smashed into pieces as she read;

Breaking News.. A man was killed when multiple shooters opened fire at his home, authorities said.

Police responded to reports of shots fired at his home at approximately 03:30am on Tuesday morning, the CCNR spokesman Kai Parry was first on scene following ambulance.

A Pietro Maximoff, key witness said the shooting appeared to have been a targeted “ambush” that involved multiple weapons, including a rifle and a handgun.
The witness described the incident as the worst single shooting crime aimed at an individual since the 1940s.

The man who was killed has been identified as James Buchanan Barnes. Reports claim that the family have been contacted and the police have not suggested there was any foul play on Mr Barnes behalf.

Gia couldn't actually believe what she had read. She had seen Bucky on Monday, and although he was annoyed with her he was very much alive. Gia picked up the phone and dialled the number.

"What the fuck have I just read? Why do they think he's dead, I spoke to him Monday." Gia's voice was starting to falter as she waited for Becca to say this was just a sick and twisted misunderstanding.

"Gia.. He's gone. We had the phone call Tuesday morning, I thought you knew. Listen finish work early and come to mine. Go home and get some shit, sort Henry and come to mine, I don't want you to be alone and quite frankly I don't want to be alone."

Gia felt numb. She told Becca she would do as she said and ended the call, turning off her computer and grabbing her coat, wanting to go home.

It didn't take long to get home, her mind was completely focused on how she had only been talking to Bucky 3 days ago. Was this her fault? Did she upset him and that somehow led to his death? Was she the reason her best friend lost her brother?

Gia just about managed to get in through her front door before she collapsed onto her knees, letting out the most painful and heart shattering scream she could. She felt like she was going to be sick, the tears burning her cheeks as she screamed into her hands.

Gia didn't realised that her front door was still open or the fact that there was an audience gathered at her front door. A soft hand placed itself onto her back as the person pulled her into them.

"Hey Gia it's Pietro, it's alright. I was the one who found him. I'm so sorry I couldn't save him." Gia couldn't manage to speak so instead she wrapped her arms around his waist as he held her on the floor, Pietro could see just how broken she was, a broken little doll.

"Where is he? Have they been to see him yet? Can I see his body?" The words tasted like acid on her tongue as she whispered them, not fully believing what she was asking.

"That's actually why we are here. For Bucky's dignity we moved his body, he's not in the best way and so the family  decided it would be best to have a closed casket." Gia just nodded and lay limp against Pietro.

They must have been there for an hour at least when Zemo and Pietro helped to move Gia's limp body from the floor and into the living room on the couch. Gia just sat staring blankly at the wall, her mind throbbing in pain with the news, her heart was hurting.

"Where is she? Gia- hey sweetie. Its Becca, come here I know you're hurting, I am too" Becca wrapped Gia in her arms, Gia looking from the wall to her best friend, the hurt and heartbreak in her eyes nearly destroyed Gia.

"I'm so sorry, he was your brother, I'm being selfish. Do you want a drink? What can I do?" Gia sniffed as she looked at her best friend. Becca smiled softly and just held Gia, both of them weaping for Bucky.

"If you girls are alright we are going to head out to get things in order for the funeral next week. Gia I'll be in touch" Pietro smiled and placed a small kiss on top of her head, a small gesture that brought a lot of comfort to her.

"Becca are you going to be alright?" Pietro asked her, not seeming convinced by the two broken sad girls. "I'll be fine Pietro thank you for calling me here, I will see you at the funeral." Pietro nodded and shut the front door after him, Becca and Gia holding onto each other for dear life.
