She sat up on her bed feeling like shit so she decided to go take a shower, walking into the bathroom and shutting the door behind her.
She looked at her reflection in the mirror and sighed.
Her eyes were puffy and her lips swollen from all the crying. She had spent almost the whole night letting her tears fall down. Joel was the only person who she'd want to be mad at her. She had completely fucked it up with him. But she should have expected that..
Pathetic...
She splashed the cold water in her face and brushed her teeth before stepping into the shower.
The cold stream of water created goosebumps all over her body but she quickly adjusted and stayed there until she was ready to come out.
When she did she noticed a bunch of clean clothes and underwear on her bed. Maria must have come in while she in the shower.
She picked out an outfit and got dressed.
"Here goes nothing.." she mumbled to herself and stepped out of her room.
Her eyes scanned the hallway and there was no one there so she made her way into the cafeteria only to find out it was empty as well.
Where are they...
She walked back and out of the building, leaning against the railings of the porch only to see Maria talking to Tommy and another two guys.
Her eyes shifted to the other side of the courtyard and her heart stopped as soon as she saw Joel standing there with his head down and arms crossed when a shorter woman aproached him.
She had complete short black hair and a cap on her head.
Makayla shifted in her place trying to listen to their conversation.
"You're new around here." She said and Joel turned around to face her,
"Yeah, Joel, I'm Tommy's-"
"Brother. Word travels quickly around these parts." She completed his sentence.
"Apparently." Joel nodded lightly with a half smile.
"I kinda see the resemblance." She said with a flirty voice admiring him.
"I see." Joel spoke raising an eyebrow and his gesture seemed almost challenging. He looked prety into talking to that woman.
"It's a compliment." The woman demanded with a smile gaining a low chuckle from Joel as his eyes shifted to the ground and back to her. The chuckle Makayla always found so damn attractive.
"Hey Joel! You ready?" Tommy called out, grabbing two horses.
"Yeah!" Joel called back before looking at the woman one more time, "It's a pleasure meeting you." He spoke and grabbed one of the horses giving her one last look.
"You too." She purred and couldn't seem to take her eyes off him till they stepped out into the woods and the gate closed.
"What are you doing?"
"Fuck!" Makayla cursed, jumping a little since Maria's presence surprised her.
"Fuck you scared me." She touched her heart and Maria laughed, "Sorry, didn't mean to do that."
"It's fine." Makayla waved her hand in the air with a heavy sigh.
"Let's go eat some breakfast. I'm starving." Maria said and went inside with Makayla following her.
"How's it going today boys?" Maria called out seeing a group of men gathering some wooden pallets
"Great for now!" One of them laughed but Makayla wasn't really paying attention. She was so lost in her own thoughts she didn't even notice one of them standing in front of her as she bumped into him.
"Oh sorry!" He turned around to face her but Makayla's face remained on the ground in shame, "No it's my fault I should have looked were I was going." She then looked up only to see a young boy with light brown hair staring down at her with a smile. Couldn't be much older than her.

"I'm Nate." He said, looking her up and down.
"Makayla." She nodded firmly.
"Makayla! You coming or what?" She heard Maria shout.
"Yeah just a sec!" Makayka shouted back and looked at Nate.
"Well I hope I'll see you around." He grinned grabbing few of those wooden pallets as he walked past her.
Makayla's eyes followed him and before he dissapeared behind the door he turned his head to look at her one more time.
...
"I thought you'd be hungrier." Maria said seeing Makayla's plate was almost still full and she had stopped eating it a while ago.
"Yeah I'm not really feeling like eating the whole thing."
"Don't worry. Buckley will be more than happy to finish it." Maria grabbed her plate and placed on the side so she won't forget to take it before they leave the cafeteria.
"Who's Buckley?" Makayla frowned.
"Oh it's a dog. He's really sweet. Wouldn't hurt a fly. Literally."
"Well, you'll have to introduce me." Makayla said taking a sip of water. She had always wanted a dog but in this world it was more than risky and too much of a responsibility.
"Anyways, tonight we will have a little revel down in the basement." Maria said, catching Makayla's attention.
"What's that about?"
"Nothing special. Just to loosen up a little after such a long time of working and surviving. You could maybe help me decorate." She looked up at Makayla.
