Arjun threw down his arms, he threw up his arms

In despair, he trembled and his limbs grew weak

To fight feels not right: to smite one's kin, it alarms

War-horses restrained, this worrier guidance seeks.

The chariot stops, Krishna his Charioteer speaks:

'So now you have doubt, from whence does it sprout?'

Have you forgotten their relentless rajasic  ways?

Is it conscience or cowardice? This now you spout?

Your heart and your mind in a maudlin tamasic daze

Act now! Upright! - villainy over virtue must not flout!'

There is a time and a place for everything in season

Peace of mind and love for all mankind

But not to injustice be so passive and blind

Conquer yourself, act with compassionate reason

In action skilful, swadharma with a sattwic mind

How to live and how to die, Krishna the map outlines

Arjun  his questions answered, choices offered

Jnana, bhakti, karma:  on sanathana  dharma  refines

Patiently many world-wisdoms by Krishna proferred

To know right from wrong, no work spurned

To do his duty, not blind with hatred nor with lust

And so from his Charioteer, the Warrior learned

His mind now clear, accept the battle he must.
