Another part of this imagine. I can't help myself I just love Charles and Erik. This is all Charles (because I adore Patrick Stuart 👨🦲) again, but I will bring back Erik in the next, and hopefully final part of this story. I hope you enjoy
Logan looked up. His eyes growing wide as he saw a face that he hadn't seen in years. He could swear that she barely looked any older than the day he last saw her. The day that she had kissed him on the cheek at the small diner, before running out into the rain and into the arms of the man she loved. Logan hoping that given she was there, that she had finally seen Magneto for what he was and had left him.
"I swear that you still look as gruff as ever. How do you do that Logan?" (Y/n) chuckled as Logan got to his feet and made his way over to her. (Y/n) letting out a heavy, relieved sigh as she felt the large mutant's arms wrap around her.
"What can I say. It's a talent." Logan replied with a growling chuckle. He himself sure, that (Y/n) had a talent for breaking through his normal tough exterior, to the soft heart underneath.
"What you doin here, kid?" Logan asked, moving away just enough so that he could get a proper look at her.
"Oh, you know, needed a holiday. Felt like a trip to a fancy school. As you do....." (Y/n) told him jokingly. Logan knowing that he probably shouldn't ask his next question, but Logan being Logan was going to ask it anyway.
"And Magneto?"
"Erik? Well, I've decided to take a little holiday from him too. Didn't think that he'd want to come with me. Who knows, some time apart may do our relationship the world of good." (Y/n) explained as happily as she could. Logan getting the idea that this time he should not press any further.
"Well, Erik's loss is our gain. Don't you think, Logan?" Charles asked. As he came up behind (Y/n) and took her hand. Logan not failing to notice how the two were looking at one another. The affection quite obvious in their gaze.
"Yeah, definitely. You, er.........you planning on this little holiday of yours lasting a while, sweetheart?" Logan agreed. The follow up question popping out of the feral's mouth before he had chance to stop it.
"I........I think so, yes. Or at least as long as Charles will allow me to stay. Its not really working out where I was. And you never know, you guys could find a use for me." (Y/n) replied softly. Charles grip on her hand getting reassuringly tighter, as he could feel it begin to tremble.
"I have already informed (Y/n) that she should consider this her home. That she has always been and will always be welcome here. Now, why don't we go and find Hank? I am sure that he would like to see you again too. Then we can introduce you to everyone else." Charles explained, as he tried to change the subject. Smiling up at (Y/n), as his chair turned and rolled towards the labs where Hank would inevitably be. Logan following behind the professor and (Y/n), hoping to find out more of what was really going on.
>>----------------------------<<
"Well?" Logan asked, as he and Charles watched Hank and (Y/n) talk happily.
"Well, what, Logan?" Charles replied. Logan rolling his eyes at the professor's apparent attempt to play dumb.
"Well........what's (Y/n) doing here? What happened? Will Magneto come lookin for her?" The big feral continued.
"(Y/n) is here because this is, and always has been, her home, Logan. I might not be able to read her mind, but I know that she is telling the truth when she says that she is scared of Erik. Scared of what he has become. What he has done. She fears for her life. She believes that he will eventually hurt her. And as much as I hate to think it of him, I believe that she is right. Erik has let his anger and hatred completely consume him. He sees nothing more, will consider nothing more, than his own black and white beliefs. He has lost the part of himself that truly did care for her. That did love her. And I think that if she had stayed, continued to oppose his ideas, then............Erik will come looking for her, I have no doubt about it. I am sure that he believes that he does still care for her. That if he does still exist, the young man that searched so desperately for her, does really still love her. But I have a feeling that this time, Erik is the one that has pushed her away. Anger and bitterness taking over as it did with me after the accident. All we can do now is, be here for her. Make her feel safe. And stand with her when Erik does come to find her." Charles explained. As he watched Hank show (Y/n) his latest experiment. The whole scene looking so reminiscent of their past. Of the time before the accident. Before his stupidity had pushed her away. The professor more determined then ever to make sure that she stayed. That this time, as she had said, there would be no need for goodbyes.
>>---------------------------------<<
"So? What do you think?" Charles asked as he wiped the corners of his mouth on his napkin.
"Well.......I think that dinner was wonderful. Thank you." (Y/n) replied with a soft chuckle. Raising her glass of wine to her lips as Charles shook his head. Both of them knowing what the professor was actually referring to.
"(Y/n).............?"
"Alright, alright. Bossy. I swear that you are as demanding as always. I think that what you have done with the place is amazing, Charles. The children that you have helped, are helping. Giving them a place to feel safe. A place that they belong, is a wonderful thing. The others, your new rag tag bunch of X-Men, are talented and quite formidable. Even better than we were. In truth, I feel like a little bit of an interloper. I know they all know who I am. I can see and feel the distrust, and I can't blame them for thinking the worst of me. I even sense it in Hank and Logan. All I can do is hope to prove them all wrong. Show them that despite all of my years with him, Erik's beliefs are not mine. That I am not the one to blame for what has happened. But I know that you already do know that. That you are the only one that truly doesn't blame me, despite the fact that you are the one that should blame me the most.............."
"(Y/n), you are not to blame for what Erik has become. You stayed with him this long because you loved him. Believed that the real Erik was still somewhere inside. That is commendable. I don't blame you for your decisions. For leaving with him. You were in love." Charles insisted, doing his best to allay her fears as he moved around the table. His chair stopping at her side.
"I think that I am cursed, Charles. Why is it when I love a man, he ends up hurting me. Pushing me away? First you, and now Erik. You both claimed that you would love me forever. That you would never hurt me. Yet here I am, alone. Without either of you." (Y/n) replied. Harsher than she had meant to. The fight that she had been having with her emotions, finally being lost, as tears rolled down her cheeks.
"(Y/n) please. Don't cry. You're not alone. You will always have me. Have a home. None of this is your fault. You are the best thing that ever happened to me or Erik. It is he and I that is cursed. Cursed with the inability to see what we had, until it was gone. Well, no more. This time I am not letting you get away." Charles told her, as he placed his hand on her cheek. His thumb gently brushing the tears from her skin.
"Oh Charles..........." (Y/n) whispered softly, as the two mutants moved closer. Their lips finally meeting again, as the light of the candles flickered around them.
