After Scott switches the sign on the door to indicate it is now closed, he collects a couple of packages from the reception desk within the veterinary office, which happens to be the only one in the town.
In the corridor, a storage room door opens, revealing Morwen dragging a large bag of kitten litter behind them. They carefully place it against the wall before retrieving a set of keys. Using the keys, they proceed to unlock the next door. However, just as they are about to pull it open—
Pausing for a moment, Morwen takes a deep breath and focuses on the sounds around them, their hand gripping the doorknob. Then they hear it... the soothing sound of raindrops gently tapping against the roof.
Scott quietly approaches from behind and effortlessly twists the doorknob, opening the door. Suddenly, the cages filled with cats burst into excitement, causing both Scott and Morwen to only manage to place a foot inside the room—
To their astonishment, the frightened felines bare their teeth, hissing and frantically clawing at the cage doors. Every single cat's attention is fixed on Morwen and Scott, their backs arched in sheer terror.
Overwhelmed by the unexpected turn of events, Morwen and Scott stumble backward, hastily retreating from the room and forcefully slamming the door shut.
Morwen retreats into the waiting area, still able to hear the chaos unfolding inside when a loud hammering noise grabs their attention.
Outside, Allison stands, drenched and distraught, pounding on the glass door with her fist. It's evident that she's in tears and experiencing great distress. Reacting swiftly, Morwen unlocks the door and welcomes her inside, allowing her to seek refuge as she tries to explain amidst her sobs.
"I didn't see it because he was clearly angry and shaken. I took my eyes off the road for just two seconds to change tunes on my iPod when, out of nowhere, this dog appeared," Allison cries out, recounting the incident.
Morwen urgently calls out to Scott in the back, "Scott!... We have a problem!"
Scott swiftly enters the room, sensing Allison's extreme agitation. Taking her hand in his, he reassures her, "Okay, it's all right. Do you remember where it happened-"
Allison's voice cracks as she tries to mumble the words. "No. Yes-"
Scott offers her a reassuring smile and says, "Alright, let's focus. Where is it?"
Allison's breathing quickens as she replies, "In my car." Scott exchanges a concerned glance with Morwen and continues, "Okay, prepare the table just in case. Take anything you think we'll need."
With a nod, Morwen exits the room and heads toward the back to gather the necessary supplies.
Scott opens the back seat door and discovers a wounded stray as he follows Allison to her car in the misty rain. The terrified lab mix has its hackles raised and shows signs of discomfort. Allison reaches for the dog, but it snaps at her. She flinches and takes a step closer, seeking comfort in Scott's arms.
Scott calmly asks, "Are you alright?" Standing behind her, he places his hands on her forearms, gently stroking her smooth skin. She nods in response.
Scott smiles and reassures her, "He's just scared." Allison smirks, her breathing gradually returning to normal. "That makes two of us."
Scott said softly, with a sweet expression on his face, "Let me see if I have any luck." Scott steps calmly toward the open door after letting her go.
