"Boss! Those pop-star ladies are here!" A large rat-like snout pokes through Sett's office door, gently sniffing the air to confirm his presence. "Send them in, Twitch." Sett sighs, pouring himself more whiskey. "Yes, yes!" Twitch squeaks as he skitters away.
Shortly after, the K/DA girls filter into the room. "Make yourselves comfortable." Sett gives a small smile and motions to three leather chairs along with an old wooden chair. "Couldn't just spring for four, huh?" Akali chuckles, spinning the rickety seat to lean on the back. The rest join her side.
"So, Sett? You're really willing to put money into a music group that doesn't officially exist?" Ahri asks, taking the lead. "I've done my research, fox. You and Evelynn already have successful careers, and I'm sure you know how to pick bandmates." Sett reassures, finishing his drink and tossing the glass into a corner.
It shatters as he takes his feet off his desk. "Let's get to the boring shit. Did you draw up the papers?" Kai'sa slides her binder to the large Vastayan. "One point five million, twenty percent cut, sponsored by my fighting pits." Sett clicks his tongue. "No artistic control. Hell, I think that's better for me than for you." He smiles.
"Now, onto the security issue. I think I can cover that." Evelynn furrows her brow. "I've seen your... fighters. They aren't exactly the image we want to convey." Sett laughs loudly. "I wouldn't trust them to guard the urinal cakes in the bathroom. There are a couple more, uh, sophisticated merc's here. " Ahri smiles, exchanging looks with the others.
"That's another box checked off! I know we couldn't take your champion, but I'm sure the others are strong as well." Sett shrugs. "I was actually about to bring that up." Ahri tilts her head. "Somebody has to protect my investments, and there's no one I trust more than Y/N. I figured you could take him in as a permanent personal bodyguard."
"You'd really want to give someone as strong as him up?" Kai'sa asks, just as confused as the other girls. "That kid is one of the strongest fighters I've ever seen, but he's really bad at talking to people. Like, awful. Way I see it, this knocks out two birds with one stone. You get your protection, Y/N gets outside his little bubble."
"This isn't optional, is it?" Evelynn's eyes narrow, picking up on Sett's game. He kicks his feet back up. "Nope." Ahri looks at each member of her group before returning her gaze to Sett. "Can we have a moment to talk about this?" He nods, corking his bottle. "I'll be back in a few minutes."
As the door closes, Akali immediately sighs, "So now we're babysitters?" "C'mon Akali. He wasn't that bad, plus we already babysit you, so what's one more?" Ahri giggles. "You don't babysit me. You nag." The fox gasps. "I do not nag. Does this sound familiar?" Ahri begins quoting.
"Akali, don't go out vandalizing random street corners. And Akali, don't run from the police when they catch you VANDALIZING!" Ahri shouts, making her chuckle. "Sounds a lot like nagging to me." Ahri slaps the back of the rapper's head. "Back to the issue at hand. He's very awkward... I thought it was pretty funny." Evelynn chuckles. "You just like that he was scared of you." Akali deadpans.
"Kai? You've been quiet. What do you think?" Ahri nudges Kai'sa's side. "I think he was nice. Sett's only doing this to try and bring him out of his shell like you did for me, Ahri." She smiles, elating Ahri. "This is the only investor we could find who wanted zero creative control. I think we go through with it."
Evelynn and Kai'sa nod. Akali sighs begrudgingly shakes her head. The four wait a moment before hearing Sett yell outside, "DAMMIT, RAT! I TOLD YOU TO DO THAT SHIT OUTSIDE!" He barges inside, slamming the door closed. "Everything alright?" Kai'sa raises an eyebrow. "Yeah, yeah. Twitch just has... issues." Sett mutters, walking back behind his desk.
Sett pulls the legal papers back toward him. "I assume you all came to a decision?" Ahri speaks up, "We agree to your condition." Sett's lips upturn. "I know you all don't know it, but this means a lot to me. If you need more funding or anything, just let me know."
Sett opens a nearby drawer and pulls out Y/N's mask. "You took his mask? He seemed rather attached to it." Evelynn questions, leaning forward to look at the metal rebreather. Sett sets it down in front of her. "Y/N's comfort zone is this mask. I've thought about smashing it before, but I figured that'd hurt more than help."
"When Y/N goes with you," Sett begins to sign the legal papers. "He can't have this back for a week." "Why?" Akali notices the intricate carvings on the mask. "Remember in the pit fight when he got that little burst of energy?" She nods. Sett raises the mask and presses the button marked by a danger sticker.
A dark blue gas ejects from the small holes inside. "It's a strong painkiller, and it's addictive, but only for a short time after inhaling it. Do not, under any circumstance, give this back to him in under a week. He'll say he can handle it, but he'll be huffing that thing like a sharpie."
"Anything else we should know? Does he explode when he gets too close to fire?" Akali smirks. "Nope. He's a smart kid, he'll take care of himself." "Well then." Ahri glares at Akali for her joke. "That's security taken care of. We'll get out of your hair now." She gives Sett a bow before exiting with the other four girls in tow.
Sett awkwardly taps his fingers on the desk. "Gotta go tell Y/N." He sighs.
---
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN, YOU'RE GETTING RID OF ME?!" Y/N shouts, seething with anger. "You know that's not what I said. Listen, kid, this is it! This is how we finally get you out of your shell!" Sett exclaims.
The half-Vastaya hauls off, decking Sett across the face. "You're getting rid of me just like THEY did. If you want me gone that bad, you don't have to dump me off on someone else." Sett backs up wiping blood off of his now-busted lip.
"Y/N, listen to me. You're an extraordinary person, an incredible fighter, and smart as all hell. I know you think you owe me. That you would be nothing if I left you on that street, begging for money. But, that's just not true. These pits aren't your future." Y/N looks up at his face, searching for any trace of deceit. "Goddammit, Sett. Fine! If that's what you want."
"Hell yeah! That's the spirit. And if nothing else, living with four hot chicks has gotta get your motor going, ey?" "L-Living?! I thought I was just their bodyguard!" Sett narrows his eyes. "You do know what a bodyguard is, right?"
Y/N rubs his face, nervously tapping his foot. "Shit, where's my mask? I need to take it with me." Sett laughs heartily. "You know that's not going to fool me. The girls have it, and you'll get it back within a week." Sighing, Y/N awkwardly looks up to Sett. "Okay. I'm uh- gonna miss you." Sett ruffles Y/N's hair. "We'll see each other eventually. After all, I've gotta check up on my investment."
He quickly tosses his clothes into a small bag, throwing it over his non-aching shoulder. After leaving Y/N's room, the two walk out of the open entryway of the large fight pits. "Remember, don't do anything I wouldn't do." Sett gives a wave as Y/N walks toward a large black limo.
Y/N's heart begins to flutter the further he goes. I can do this. It's just an enclosed space with four beautiful women. Why did I have to phrase it like that? Steeling himself, Y/N opens the car door, revealing the four celebrities. "H-Hello again." He stutters out.
"Sup." "Hey!" "Hi." "Hello, Darling~" Evelynn's greeting visibly shakes Y/N. "Why don't you come and sit next to me? I warmed the seat up for you~" She coos. "Evelynn, stop trying to give him a heart attack. Sit wherever you want to." Ahri gives a reassuring smile.
Y/N nods slowly and takes a seat next to Ahri, as close to the door and as far away as he can. Trying his best to keep his gaze at his own feet, the driver of the limo begins their trek back to the K/DA mansion. After thirty minutes of driving, the gentle vibration of the road was putting him to sleep.
Nodding off, Y/N's eyes droop as he leans on the soft leather-lined door. Letting sleep take hold, his breaths get slow down.
Maybe this wouldn't be a horrible change.
