Chapter 2: Party and Harry

The green-eyed lad and red-haired chick caught my eye as I opened my eyes. They were heading to the soccer field. The boy was wearing a blue plaid T-shirt with a white undershirt, while the girl was wearing a white shirt, blue cardigan, and a skirt as long as regular underwear. It wouldn't have made a difference if she didn't wear it. She was clinging on to him and squeezing his arm.

"Ugh, Harry, the first day of school is such a bummer," she muttered, feigning weariness.

"Okay, I'm going to throw you a party, Max," he replied.

"Really? Thanks, Babe," she asked and pulled him in for a kiss.

I know, right? Ew.

When I couldn't watch them any longer, I got up and went to the cafeteria.

After a busy day at school, the school closed its doors. While others planned shopping trips or movie outings, nerds stayed in and studied. Of course, I couldn't stop thinking about him.

"Could we go somewhere today, Kelly? I just need to get my mind off of some things," I asked.

"Well, let's do some shopping first," she replied.

I wore a black sequin dress and curled my hair into an updo. If Kelly is taking me somewhere, I know I got to dress up. Pearl is going with her boyfriend Lucas. So Kelly and I took a limo to the destination. As we approached the place, I saw an enormous house designed in a modern style.

The minute I stepped into the house, I saw people snogging in every corner. Some people were smoking weed, while the others were doing shots. The lightning was set in a blue and red color scheme. Each of us took a cup filled with unknown liquid from the drinks table. The alcohol made me dizzy. It didn't take long for Niall and Kelly to start dancing. Upon approaching the couch, I spotted him. Wearing a Polka Dot shirt and black suit, he looked dapper. His eyes met mine.

He began walking towards me. Unconsciously, I started striding towards him. The moment he was about to say something, Maxine snatched him from behind and pulled him along the dance floor to grind against him. His gaze never left me. Suddenly, my body tensed up. Taking all the drinks from the passing server, I began drinking them one after another. My legs became numb.

Lucas approached me. "Hey Clara, are you okay?" he asked.

Throbbing with dizziness, I asked, "Where's Pearl?"

He led me toward the couch and sat beside me, saying, "She's in the ladies' room."

"You know, you look beautiful tonight," he remarked. I didn't respond.

His head inclined and he moved towards me.

"What the hell, Lucas,?" I said, moving back.

"I'm sorry," he said before getting up and disappearing into the crowd.

Kelly was nowhere to be found as I scrambled around the back garden, trying to locate her. I was on the verge of collapsing when someone caught me.

As I looked up, I noticed Harry clutching my left arm with one hand and my waist with the other. He didn't speak.

"Tell Kelly I want to go home."

My eyes closed, and I dozed off.
