You may be falling in love with me

"One down, twenty to go." Lisa pulled the white sheet up to her neck, lying back in the darkness of the girls' hotel room.

"Don't get so excited." Jennie muttered. The younger one knew the girl was smiling even though sleep was clear in her voice.

"Thanks for today." She whispered back as she turned to face her, the moonlight coming from the window illuminating her face. "I had fun."

There was a long silence before Jennie answered, Lisa listening to the calm breathing from the bed beside her.

"Good night."

The blonde turned back and faced the wall, trying to get comfortable. Seconds turned to minutes, and minutes turned to hours, but she couldn't turn her mind off. She could hear Jennie snoring softly next to her, her heart clenching at the soothing sound. How was it possible to have fallen in love with this girl in less than two days; the premise defied logic, which wasn't something Lisa liked very much. And she knew the more time she spent with Jennie the worse it would get.

It was all.

Her hair.

Her eyes.

Her voice.

Her passion.

The way her face lit up when she knew she was sharing something special with Lisa, opening her eyes to something that was previously unknown.

The way she smiled when the blonde was out of her comfort zone or said something affectionate.

Or the way she was so confident when it came to others but shy when praised, almost surprised to hear it directly from her.

All that and only forty-three hours had passed.

And the worst part was that after those three weeks were up, she wasn't sure she would ever see her again.

Nothing good would come of this.

Nothing.

---

The sun reflected off the huge concrete floor in front of her. The heat rising from her caused sweat to form on her forehead and her tank top to cling uncomfortably to her body. There was no way to escape.

"It's so hot." Lisa complained in despair.

"That's what gelato is for." Jennie said without much help, passing her the small glass of ice cream, before going back to the cashier and paying the woman.

Lisa had gotten off the boat that took them ashore to be confronted with the overwhelming sight of Piazza San Marco. They had no words to describe the size and richness of the square in Venice, with its endless stone arches and thousands of glass windows that surrounded the grandeur of the open area filled with tourists, and restaurants, and merchandise stalls.

It was really inspiring.

Lisa attacked her gelato, which was starting to melt, with the small plastic spoon, feeling the cooling effect on her tongue and throat. The smooth flavor of strawberries was like heaven in her mouth.

My God.

Why does everything have to be so much better in Europe?

She turned to Jennie, watching as the girl carefully placed the first spoon in her mouth, an innocent smile tugging at her lips. Her tongue darted out to wipe one corner of her mouth. Lisa looked away, thinking of anything but what that tongue must taste like. She looked at the hundreds of tourists passing the front of the ice cream parlor, trying not to get caught again staring at the surreal perfection of the girl in front of her.
