The cold air off the mountains hit her face and wet hair, sending chills down her back. Her gaze turned to the beautiful view in front of her. Kilometers of a blue lake extended to both sides, with pieces of ice beyond the surface of the water. The sun was slowly reaching the horizon, painting the unique houses with an orange glow that were a few meters below it.
Lisa took a deep breath in the fresh air, her mind still screaming over what she saw a little over an hour ago. She kept repeating the scene in her mind a thousand times; to torture herself, or to remember that it really happened, the blonde was not sure. The moment she entered that place, something lodged in her stomach and made it physically impossible for her to move, or form some coherent thought. She stood still, and watched, and waited. It was like this until Jennie turned around, covering herself with a T-shirt and raising her perfect eyebrows.
" like what you see?"
Lisa stared at her a little more and laughed dully, her face turning red while being lost for words. She moved to get her backpack and occupied herself with her own clothes, all this time feeling Jennie's eyes on her.
What would you do?
She felt helpless and defeated; her chest hurt so much that she thought it would explode, or her heart would stop at any time. She knew how to make it stop. And if she were in Thailand, and it was anyone else, she would have already put them against the wall. But this was not Thailand, and Jennie was not a stranger at a party. So this solution was not feasible at this point, especially since It was still two weeks with the girl.
What if she did something and Jennie rejected her, or if her feelings were not reciprocal? Then she would be in the middle of a completely unknown country with a girl that rejected her, making the situation more complicated than it already was. Or worse, Jennie feels the same way as Lisa, putting a countdown on their time together. A slow and agonizing count that would inevitably reach zero, and they would say goodbye to each other, possibly forever.
This vacation went from a rebellious escape to personal hell on a train ride. A part of her wished she had just shared a cabin with a weird Italian guy, or a family of four. The other part couldn't shake the thought, no matter how illogical, that they were destined to get to know each other. That waking up to that blinding light and startling beauty was beyond her control.
She so wanted Chaeyoung to be here. She always had a way of making her problems not that important, or somehow less frightening. With a smile or a playful push, she forgot all about what bothered her and relaxed into the bubble of pure bliss. God, she missed Chaeyoung.
She got up from the wooden chair of the old gas station and went to the icy metal handrail, squeezing it tightly. The icy surface that her hands touched helped filter her thoughts, and let her focus on the boats that looked like ants seeing where she was from. She Let herself focus on the cracks on the ice that stood on the surface of the water.
"I hope you're hungry."
And with that simple sentence, her world was pulled back to where her body seemed happy to drown. Lisa took advantage of her last seconds of clarity, before turning to find those beautiful eyes and bright smile that have become a drug to her for the last three days; highly provocative, addictive, but dangerous in her own way.
"I got Goulash, Schnitzel and Almdudler."
"Almdudler?"
Jennie handed Lisa the bottle filled with a yellow liquid with a smile and sat on the wooden chair. Their bus stopped at the gas station so they could eat at the simple convenience there before entering Vienna, Lisa happy to let Jennie order for both of them.
