-JENSEN'S POV-

"Well, for the record, I miss you, too, Lightweight," I told her.

"I should probably go. They'll be wondering where I am before long," Scarlett sighed.

"Yeah, I understand."

"Then again, when I left I was the soberest one of the group, so I'm sure they can manage without me a little while longer."

"Go be with them, Lightweight. And get yourself some water."

"But I like talking with you, Douchebag. You're voice soothes me."

"My voice soothes you?"

"Yeah, there's something about your voice that makes me want to listen for hours. You don't even have to be saying anything interesting, as long as I hear it, I can't get worked up about anything."

I grinned, shaking my head. She might have only had half a drink, but it was amazing how much that little bit of alcohol loosened her up. It was obvious most of her filters were still on, since she was still calling me Douchebag instead of Jensen, but I was sure that she wouldn't be openly admitting she missed me or liked the sound of my voice if she was totally sober.

"Tell you what, I'll call you tomorrow when the alcohol is out of your system and you can listen to me talk to you as long as you want," I told her.

"Promise?"

"Cross my heart."

"Alrighty. Bye, Douchebag."

"Talk to you later, Lightweight."

I hung up the phone, still smiling to myself.

"So, who was that?"

I spun around to see Dani standing in the doorway, suitcase beside her and her purse still over her shoulder.

"Dani? I thought you wouldn't be back for a few more days."

"Yeah, well, I got done early so I came home to be with my daughter. Who was that on the phone?"

"A friend from work," I replied. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming back early?"

"Sounded like more than a friend. Who is she, Jensen?"

"Why do you care, Danneel? We're divorced, remember?"

"Why are you getting defensive all of the sudden? I just wanted to know who the hell you're talking to at 11:30 at night."

"She's a friend from work. I already told you that," I growled.

"You said you missed her. And why were you calling her 'Lightweight'?"

"I said... How long have you been standing there?"

"Long enough," Dani shrugged. "I don't think you should call her tomorrow."

"Excuse me?"

"I don't think you should call her tomorrow. You have a responsibility here, and you can't fulfil it if you're calling up some girl."

"You're unbelievable," I scoffed. "I don't have to listen to you because A, we're not married anymore and B, now that you're back, I can actually fly back to Vancouver and resume filming for the show."

"You're making a mistake, Jay. I don't think you should be talking to that girl."

"That girl happens to have been cast as Dean's love interest in the show, so even if I didn't talk to her outside of work, we'd still have to talk to and spend time with each other. And like I said, you don't exactly have a say in who I do or do not communicate with since we aren't together any more!"

"I'm just trying to make sure you understand the kind of example you're setting for your daughter!"

"What kind of bull crap are you talking about?!"

"Look, I just don't think JJ needs you talking to and spending time with some other woman. She's going to think you're trying to replace her mother!"

"Bull! You know that's bull, Dani! Trying to replace her mother? Are you mental?! Scarlett and I are just friends! And I know no one I decide to move on with could ever replace you as JJ's mom, but it's my life and my decision! You're just jealous because I found someone I actually enjoy being around, and you're all alone!"

"Daddy? Why you yelling at Mommy?"

I froze, looking over to see my daughter hovering in the hall entrance. She was hugging her bear in one arm and had a fist in her blanket as she stared up at me with her big sleepy eyes. Glancing quickly at Danneel, I walked over and scooped the young girl into my arms.

"It's nothing, baby. Mommy and Daddy were just having a little disagreement," I told her as I carried her back down the hall.

"Mommy made you mad?" JJ asked me.

"Yeah, Mommy made me mad. It's going to be okay, though."

"Why Mommy make you mad?"

"She just didn't like something I was doing, that's all."

I laid her back in her bed, pulling the covers up around her as she snuggled into her pillow.

"You say sorry to Mommy, otay?"

"Okay, Birdie. I'll say sorry to Mommy."

"Otay. Nigh, nigh, Daddy."

"Good night, JJ," I whispered, pressing my lips to her forehead as her eyes fluttered close.

I slipped quietly from the room, heading back down the hall where Dani was sitting in the living room with a glass of wine in her hand.

"She asleep?" she inquired from her place on the couch.

"Yeah, she is. She doesn't like when we fight."

"Yeah, well, that seems to be the only thing we're good at, doesn't it?"

I didn't respond, taking a seat in one of the recliners while she drank from her glass.

"Scarlett, huh?"

"What?"

"Right before JJ interrupted, you said you and Scarlett were just friends."

"Yeah. Yeah, that's her name. And we are just friends, I swear."

"That phone call would imply otherwise," she gave me a pointed look, taking another sip of her wine.

"Please, Dani, I don't want to argue with you. And I don't exactly owe you anything in that department since you were the one who asked for the divorce in the first place."

"So don't argue. I want you on the first flight out to Vancouver. No reason to prolong your stay any longer now that I'm here."

"Alright. I'll get right on that, I promise."

Without another word, Dani drained the last of her drink and headed down the hall to get ready for bed. I sighed to myself, leaning forward and burying my face in my hands.
