It's been six years since we married now, and we're heading to see a lady by the name of yukki. She's fallen deathly ill, and after the passing of her husband, cannot care for her little girl. Today is the day we adopt her.
Yukki only has a few days left according to physicians. There's no way to cure her, as her disease spread through her body like a cancer. She just wants to make sure her little girl has a home before she passes.
We walk into the small hut and see a pale sickly woman in the bed. Next to her, there's a crib with a small bundle of blankets. "Hello?" I call out, making sure she can hear us. She motions for us to come closer to her.
"Are you two here for Akira?" She asks weakly. We nod, and she motions a shaky hand to the crib. "My daughter is the only thing I have left, but life has been cruel. Promise me you will take good care of her for me?"
"Of course we will."
"We'll make sure she grows up to be a happy and healthy young lady." Kou chimes in. She smiles and nods. She reaches for her baby, which I had to her. It's the last time she will see her. She smiles, and hums a small lullaby to her, before she kisses her forehead and hands her to us.
"I give you both my blessing. Raise my little girl well." She says as I take her. We nod, and leave, after she shoos us out. We make the trek home, making sure not to wake the baby.
It takes her a month to get used to us, no doubt still wondering where her mother is. But that was a while ago now. It's been five years since then, and we're heading to the same town we adopted Akira in. "Daddy, where are we going?" She asked me with a curious glance. She didn't know why Kou was holding flowers, or why I was carrying her.
"We're off to see somebody." Was my response. The same response I gave her before. She pouted a little, but left it at that. We arrived at a graveyard and walked in. She was confused, but said nothing as we approached a certain grave.
"I thought we were seeing someone?"
"We are. This is where they sleep now." She looked at the name on the grave.
"Daddy?"
"Yes sweetpea?"
"What dose that say?" I chucke.
"It says 'Yukki Shirofuku.'"
"Who's that?" Kou chuckled.
"She was a kind lady who fell sick after losing her husband. She couldnt care for her little girl, so she had to give her away before she came to sleep."
"She gave us something very special Akira. Something we never thought we would be able to get."
"What was that?" We pulled her in for a hug as Kou set the flowers on the grave.
"You sweetie. She gave us you."
