*half an hour later in the dormitory*
"We really shouldn't have done that" mumbled Remus, "Lily is so pissed"
"Am I really an arrogant bullying toe rag" asked James genuinely concerned
"Sorry mate, but from her perspective, yes" said Sirius quietly
"I am an idiot" said James
Remus resisted the urge to nod
"I hate Snivellous" said James for the thousandth time
"But what if I was nicer, would she at least be my friend" asked James
"It would take a full one-eighty in personality mate" said Remus
"I have to try though, she is definitely worth it" James sighed

The Marauders agreed that it probably was time to grow up, even if it was just a little bit, they had gotten into heaps of trouble that day, detention for the rest of the year, and next year they would be NEWT students.
James went to discuss a plan with Amethyst, who had basically become a counsellor for the Marauders.

*the next week in the great hall*
At breakfast James sat next to Lily, as he always did, but this time instead of trying pick up lines, this happened
"Excuse me Lily", said James,
"But I would like to apologise, I am an arrogant bullying toe rag, I realise that now and I'm truly sorry for the terrible pick up lines and ignorance"
Lily scoffed
"If you really meant that you'd apologise to Severus" she said with a frown
"Ok then" said James and he walked over to the Slitherin table, followed by Lily, who wanted to make sure he didn't hex anyone.
"Severus, I'm sorry for hexing you the other day, if you could ever forgive me that would be a bloody miracle" said James and he returned to the Griffindor table.

*in DADA, the next week*
"Hello class, today we will be covering the subject of boggarts, you should have done this in your third year, but as I understand, your teacher then turned out to be a death eater, who only tried to teach the dark arts themselves, correct" asked professor Darlingheart
Several students nodded.
"Can anyone tell me what a boggart is" asked the professor
For the first time ever James Potter raised his hand
"James"
" a  Boggart is a shape-shifting creature that will assume the form of whatever most frightens the person who encounters it" he answered
Lily looked shocked, did James Potter just correctly answer a question in class?
"And do you know what can stop a boggart James" the professor asked
"The spell Riddikulus will make it take an amusing form" said James
The professor turned to Remus, "I believe your father has dealt with boggarts before"
"Yes, and so have I" said Remus

When it was Lily's turn to face the boggart it took the shape of professor McGonagall
"I'm not scared of pro..." But the boggart cut her off
"Lily Evans, I'm afraid you just aren't cut out to be a Witch, you'll have to return to the Mug..."
"Riddikulus" Lily shouted and the boggart turned into professor McGonagall's Anigmagus cat chasing it's tail
Then it was James' turn.
His boggart took the shape of a Lily

The boggart Lily began to speak
"You're an arrogant bullying toe rag Potter, a sorry excuse for a Wizard, I would never be your friend, even if I had to choose between you and the Giant Squid, your pathetic, I bet you don't get a single OWL and you have to leave Hogwarts, and by the way, your pick up lines are terrible and you are a concieted prat and you know what, Severus and I are engaged and your stupid parents will be lumped with you for their whole lives because no-one will ever love you enough to help you buy a cardboard box to live in" the boggart shouted
"Riddikulus" James whispered, but nothing happened
Then the real Lily Evans jumped in front of James and once again shouted
"Riddikulus".
James was touched.
"Thankyou so much Lily" he whispered
"I'm sorry I said some of those things to you for real", said Lily, "James I'd love to be friends with you and the Marauders" she whispered.

Then it was Sirius' turn.
Walburga Black stood in front of him.
"You shall be punished you foul blood traitor" she cried but before she could yell Crucio Remus jumped in front of him and a small fullmoon appeared in the classroom, but before it finished forming Remus had already yelled Riddikulus and it turned into a balloon and flew around the room.
Peter's boggart was Voldemort. But a Hufflepuff girl named Amelia Bones jumped in front of him and banished the boggart.
Then the lesson was over.

It turned out that Amelia was the Hufflepuff girl Peter had a crush on in fourth year, and Peter had secretly asked her out.
