"What are you doing?"November 16th, Taehyung closes himself off in the bathroom to escape Jeongguk.
For the first time since he's met Jeongguk, Taehyung doesn't want to be around him. But no matter what he does, no matter where he goes, Jeongguk is always there.
He's there when he's sleeping, he's there when he wakes up. He texts him all throughout his classes and he meets him at the library when he goes there. It's excruciating, it's exhausting being around him 24/7.
Especially now that Jeongguk's sole purpose was to make him perfect, or 'the best version of himself' as he would put it.
"I'm not feeling well, I only need a minute," Taehyung says, putting the lid down on the toilet and taking a seat. "Maybe you should go home, Gguk, I don't want to get you sick."
"You are my home, Taehyung," Jeongguk says, trying the door and finding it locked. "Come out and I'll take care of you. You should get some sleep."
"I'm tired of sleeping." Taehyung sighs, leaning forward and putting his head in his hands. "I can't sleep anymore."
"Are you out of sleep aids?" Jeongguk asks. "Do you need more?"
"I still have some." He didn't want to go to sleep. "Leave me alone for a second, I'll be right out."
He hears nothing in response, silence settling over the small apartment—his shoulders.
He sits there for a few minutes before lifting his head, listening for the sound of Jeongguk moving around the apartment.
He stands quickly when he hears nothing, walking out of the bathroom in search of him. He almost thinks he's gone, he almost thinks he finally left until~
"What's wrong, beautiful?" Jeongguk's voice says, resonating from seemingly every direction before Taehyung turns and meets his eyes. He tilts his head in concern as he walks up from behind him. "Are you still feeling sick?"
"I-I thought you left," Taehyung says when he sees him.
"You know I'd never leave you," He says, bringing his hand up and caressing Taehyung's face. "You should really lie down, you feel warm."
"What about the food?" Taehyung asks, looking towards the kitchen where they left the salads they were prepping for the week.
"Don't worry about that," Jeongguk says, taking his hands. "You're exhausted, Taehyung. Have one of your sleep aid tablets and lie down."
Taehyung feels an anxious feeling in his gut as he lets Jeongguk lead him to his bedroom. He pops a tablet out of the aluminum package with shaking hands before taking it, letting it dissolve under his tongue as he climbs into bed.
Jeongguk pulls him into his arms, holding him against his chest. "I love you, Taehyung."
"I love you..." He responds, his voice trailing off as he immediately starts to feel the effects of the tablet.
He tries to focus on Jeongguk's touch, he tries to zero in on the sound of his breathing. This was real. Jeongguk's arm around him was real, his breath ticking his ear was real.
He told himself that there was no way that this wasn't happening.
He couldn't be imagining the sound of Jeongguk's voice as he whispered gentle nothings, he couldn't make up the warmth resonating from his body.
But he also couldn't make up the fear in his chest as he's taken under by the sleep aid. He's pulled further and further away from consciousness, yet Jeongguk's voice doesn't waver. It doesn't taper off along with the sounds of the washing machine in the next room and the leaking faucet in the bathroom.
