"An apartment, really?"Taehyung sighs as he walks towards his dorm holding his cellphone to his ear.
"I wanted to talk to my mother about it," He says, he honestly hated talking to Seokjin's father about anything concerning his life.
"You have to talk to me about somethings, Taehyung. I'm your father~"
"Step father," Taehyung corrects before he can finish. "I'd rather speak to my mother."
"Your mom isn't here right now so you're speaking to me," Mr. Kim says, it's evident in his tone that he's a bit upset. "Continue with what you were saying."
"I want my own apartment. I don't like living with a roommate," Taehyung says, despite his reluctance. "I just want my own space."
"And let me guess, you want me to pay for it?" His step father asks. "As if I'm not already paying for your car and your tuition?"
Taehyung sighs in frustration. "A simple 'yes' or 'no' would be perfect."
"Taehyung, having a roommate is an essential part of the college experience," Mr. Kim says. "Don't you think you'd be missing out?"
"I don't care about the 'college experience' like everyone else does. I just want my own space where I can focus on my work," The boy explains. "My mother would understand."
"Of course she would." His step father sighs on the other line. "I'm only saying yes because I know she'd want me to."
"Okay," Taehyung says, relief flooding through him.
"A 'thanks, dad' would be kinda nice right now."
"Thanks."
His step father chuckles on the other end of the line, probably wondering how he ever got stuck with a step kid like Taehyung.
"I'll look at some places around campus and get back to you," He says. "Take care of yourself, son."
"Yeah, thanks," Taehyung says, pulling the phone from his ear and ending the call.
Maybe it was his own fault, maybe he made himself feel like an outcast around his family whenever they were together. But he couldn't deny the fact that he didn't quite fit in the picture.
When his mother married Seokjin's father, it was almost like she finally found her perfect family.
Her husband was successful with his self-made business and her new son was as smart as a whip and always did well in everything he decided to do.
On the other hand, Taehyung's grades were average, he never tried anything new, and he was emotionally unavailable.
If they cut him out of the picture they'd be the perfect little family, but instead they had to have a misfit and that misfit was Taehyung.
——
Looking around the one bedroom apartment Taehyung almost felt giddy with excitement, almost.
He doesn't let his eagerness show as he puts down one of the few boxes that contained the things from his dorm.
"Ugh," Seokjin sighs, dropping a smaller box on the ground and wiping his brow as if he was exhausted from carrying it. "I can't believe you're seriously moving out. I've been in school for three years and I'm still in a dorm. Hobi's moving in with me, by the way. Not that you'd care, as much of a deadbeat roommate as you were."
"Maybe you should've asked." Taehyung says, disregarding his comment about Hoseok and walking further into the apartment.
"My father's trying to buy you, you get that right?" The older asks as he looks around. "He's been trying to buy you since we were thirteen."
