Ransom: The night before:
"How much whiskey did she drink?" Harlan shrieks.
"The whole bottle." I bark, looking at Evelyn, who is laughing hysterically by my feet.
She holds onto her torso and spouts sounds of pain every few seconds.
"Why don't you take her home?" Harlan suggests.
"I can't. Evelyn is staying with her mother and I don't know where her mother lives." I snarl.
I really wish I knew where Evelyn's mother stays.
So you can stalk her? See when she leaves the house? When she returns back to the house?
Shut up!
"Oh that's cute how you think I meant Evelyn's mother's place." Harlan sarcastically laughs.
"What?" I spit. "What's with the attitude gramps?"
Harlan knits his brows together. "What did you just call me?"
I suppress a laugh. "Are you struggling to hear?"
"Don't mess with me boy." Harlan warns.
I give a dismissive wave. "Whatever. Anyway, I want to know what you meant by 'that's cute'."
Harlan glares at me for a second before speaking. "What I meant was why don't you take Evelyn back home."
"To her house?" I ask, confused at Harlan's suggestion.
Harlan closes his eyes, pinching the bridge of his nose. "No Ransom! Take Evelyn to her house, meaning your house."
I blink. "Why didn't you just say my house? Why did you say Evelyn's home? Here you are saying I must take Evelyn back home, to her house, or back to her mom's place."
"Honestly Ransom," Harlan grunts, "I believe I said 'take her home'. I didn't mention her house or her mother's damn house."
I...I don't know how to respond to that. Does Harlan consider Evelyn's home to be at my own house?
"This really isn't hard to understand Ransom. Just take Evelyn back to your place."
"But why can't she stay here instead?" I propose.
I know Evelyn will be furious if I take her to my place. When she wakes up tomorrow, she is going to be so angry at me because she will probably think I manipulated her to go to my place.
Even though that is not the case here...
"She cannot stay here. Who is going to watch her when she is...like this?" Harlan points to Evelyn, who is now wheezing more than laughing.
Harlan looks at me. "Marta is not going to watch her, nor is Fran. So that only leaves you."
Evelyn calls Harlan, but then she bursts out laughing again.
Harlan gapes at Evelyn in bewilderment. "Has she ever been this drunk before?"
I huff and glance at Evelyn. The answer to Harlan's question is...no. I haven't seen Evelyn this drunk before...ever. The last time Evelyn was drunk, she jumped on my bed, spouting the most random words and then she just passed out. When Evelyn woke up, I told her she is not to drink again, but Evelyn being a rebel that she is...still drank afterward, but not as much as she originally did. Tonight however, Evelyn ended up drinking so much that she will probably forget what she did the night before.
