Chapter 22. Never Ending Love (Last)

When the island fell apart, Tabby's minions began to hold their heads in pain, she had lost total control over them and the dark magic began to fade.

Natsu and Zeref landed, Hades, Lucy's spirits, the Magic Council members and the other guilds stood behind Lucy in battle stance.

"Betelg, ¿Has the wind whisked away our dreams?", Tabby squeezed Betelg's arm, a mist of tears blinded her. She screamed of raged, of helplessness almost losing the sanity to see her dreams shattered.

Betelg looked up, he muttered a spell, "Red moon drip, dispelled", the lunar eclipse began to dissipate leaving behind an unbelievable waning moon. "We never really intended to hurt you, perhaps, Tabby went overboard when she tried to snatch your power, but everything we did really has a greater cause".

Lucy turned to look at the moon and smirked, "I was right, it was you...".

Natsu answered sarcastically, "So, ¿You justify her selfish actions because of that supposedly greater cause? So, if my cause is to protect my friends, it means, it would be perfectly acceptable to kill her now for my own purposes, ¿Right?".

"¡Our methods may not have been the best, but they were never selfish!", Tabby snarled back at Natsu.

"I will make you pay for all the harm you did to my friends", Natsu replied furiously.

Betelg stood in front of Tabby and extended both arms from side to side to protect her, "¡If you want to kill someone and if one life is enough, then take my life!".

Tabby held her head in pain, "¡Betelg stop! Don't. At that moment a horde of demons began to try to get out of Tabby's body, as she squirmed and screamed in pain and fear. Betelg tried to get near her but the demons attacked him, sending him flying away.

Everyone looked at her perplexed, it had not finished yet. A wave of power spread from Tabby's body, leaving everything around her lifeless, undoubtedly, it was the Contradictory Curse.

The wave was about to reach Lucy, Natsu shouted her name in horror at the thought of what would happen to her if she was trapped inside the wave. Despite hearing his scream, she did not pay attention to Natsu, instead, she fixed her gaze on her brother, "¡Hades take them out of range!". Right after, she extended her arm towards Mount Olympus crosier, "¡Rod of Aesculapius, I proclaim you!". Everything happened very fast, the last thing everyone saw was that the wave engulfed Lucy completely.

Hades used his teleportation to move everyone out of range, exhausting his last strength.

Natsu looked around and found Lucy standing next to Betelg, at the edge of the ongoing wave of the Contradictory Curse, the white crosier was spinning in the air in front of her.

Betelg's heart sank, "Tabby..."

"She did this to herself...", said Lucy preoccupied.

Betelg shook his head in denial, "All she ever wanted was a place where she could be accepted, a place to call home, a family. We put a lot of effort to create a place where we can belong, is true that we filled the minions with dark magic, but the demon-race was born out of rejection. The rejection that suffers a star that can no longer shine. ¿Did you know that life as a dark star is miserable? Rules in the sky, leaves no room for us", his knees slumped to the ground, he clenched his fists, "All of you speak as if it had been easy, when the truth is that we had no choice". Betelg said among sobs.

She took the crosier and looked at him, "¡Indeed! Rules in the sky are unfair, I agree with you, the problem is that Chronos' laws are absolute", she replied sadly, then turned and looked at him, "the moon, ¿It was you, wasn't it?".
