The campus was rather beautiful when it was empty.

There were plenty of things to look at, all combined to form an artistic aesthetic. The buildings were old and held many stories within their brick walls; all the cracks and chips each holding tiny bits of history. And the trees seemed to sway effortlessly in the wind, the sunlight dripping onto each leave like honey.

I loved it here. I loved London. I loved the people, the buildings, everything. London was my city. Maybe that's why I never had much desire to leave. Because I was far too happy staying in London to leave it. London was the place to be. It had smiling faces, streets soaked in glorious sunlight, history. History everywhere. I loved London.

But I was very excited for Brazil. More excited than I expected. As someone who forever stayed in her comfort zone, I was surprisingly more than ready to leave it and fly across the world to a new foreign country. Brazil! Wow! What a fantastic opportunity! I couldn't possibly turn it down, not when Avery and Niall needed me.

Not when Zayn needed me.

We needed this trip to try and fix our relationship, and I was seriously hoping we'd be able to. I loved Zayn far too much to give up on him so easily. I loved him far too much to not be with him. Hell, I loved him more than I loved London.

So that's why, for the first time, I was leaving.

------

"So, I've been thinking."

I stop walking, my body turning numb. Oh, no. Here it came. The balance, the wrecking ball. The thing that would make this perfect situation turn absolutely shit. It was the "So, I've been thinking" speech. And I was not prepared for it. Zayn and I had been officially dating for about a month. Was he bored of me already?

"Oh?" I croak.

Zayn studies me, a slight look of amusement in his eyes. "You look as if I've just told you I've murdered an entire family."

"To be honest, that would be better."

He laughs, grabbing my shoulders. "Relax, Vi. Let me talk."

I look up at him expectantly.

"I've been thinking," he repeats. "About us."

"Hmm." My throat is dry, my heart irrationally beating.

"And I think we're going pretty well. Don't you think?"

"Hmm."

"I mean, we've just finished school. We've been spending all this time together. And that's been great."

"Hmm." I feel tears start to prick my eyes. This was it. This was him going to tell me he couldn't do it anymore. This was the goodbye I had been waiting for.
