Zayn
"Morning, Zayn-o!"
"Jesus Christ! Niall!" I cry as the lanky blonde comes waltzing into the kitchen absolutely stark naked. I shield my face with my hands. "What the fuck? It's seven thirty!"
Niall just chuckles a good old hearty chuckle and I hear the fridge opening. "You're acting like you've never lived with me before!"
"I've sure as shit never seen you naked before!"
"Now we both know that's a lie."
"Whatever. Can you please just put some clothes on? For fuck's sake."
"Fine, fine. But, Zayn-o. The body is a beautiful form of art and-"
"GO!"
I hear him sigh deeply before his footsteps move down the hall. Hoping it's safe, I move my arms away from my face and take a deep breath. God almighty. That was not what I needed to see this early in the morning.
"Why are you up so early anyway?" Niall yells from down the hall. "I usually get home from work at, like, five and you're just waking up."
"I have to go into the university," I reply, switching on the coffee machine. "They have some stuff they want to give me or something. I think I have to sign out. You know, because my degree actually doesn't finish for another three years."
Niall walks back down the hall, thankfully fully dressed. He grabs a mug and grabs the coffee pot before I can, pouring himself a full mug of coffee. I just roll my eyes and pour into my own mug what's left. "But the semester doesn't start for another month?" He sits down on the couch.
"I know that, but I'm not going back. I have to tell them that I'm not."
He nods like he understands but I know he really doesn't.
"Where's Avery?"
"She's in the shower. Her shift starts at nine."
"Is she liking it there?" I ask. "At the cafe?"
"Yeah, yeah. They treat her well. It's just hard sometimes for her, you know, when she sees parents with their kids." Niall falters. "It sort of triggers her."
It had been months since Avery's miscarriage and she was definitely better, but that still didn't stop the occasional sadness she would get. It would be at the most random times too, like someone on TV just saying the word 'baby' or the mere sight of a mother and her child. She'd make an excuse to leave the room immediately.
"You guys are gonna have one someday," I assure him.
Niall cracks a smile. "We really hope so."
We fall into a comfortable silence, both of us just sipping away at our coffee. Then he speaks again.
"So what's happening with you and Violet?"
I swallow my mouthful slowly. "Nothing ...?"
He just gives me his 'Niall look'. You know the damn fucking look. "You sure about that?"
"What are you saying?"
He sips at his coffee and shrugs. "I don't know, what am I saying?"
"I don't know what you're saying. What are you saying? Are you saying what I think you're saying? If you are, stop saying it."
"You two looked awfully cosy the other night at the bar." He raises his eyebrow behind his mug. "Also, you left together."
"What are you saying?"
