Zayn
You have got to be kidding me. Liam? That's Liam? The guy looks too cool to be Liam. He looks too stylish, too mean, too angry. But there's no doubt about it, the guy standing by the doorway is most definitely Liam.
Everyone kind of just stares at him, finding it hard to believe that he is who he actually is. I gotta give him props; out of everyone he's definitely changed the most since high school.
"What?" He suddenly cries out. "You're all just gonna stand there?" He shrugs off his jacket and throws it at the nearest person then looks around and steps forward. He pulls up his lip in disgust. "Who organised this thing?"
Avery bounds up to him, going in for a hug and totally getting rejected. We all kind of gasp, because nobody rejects Avery's hugs. I mean, how can you?
"Hey, Liam," she says, recovering from her non-hug. "Nice to see you."
He just looks at her and shrugs.
"Um, do you want something to eat? You must be tired after your flight."
Liam ignores her and just as I'm about to step in and make him say something, he mumbles something and heads off down the hall away from sight.
Avery looks back around and shrugs. "Well, carry on everyone."
Everyone gets back to talking and mingling, ignoring the disruption. I decide I'm starving and turn to Violet. "Let's go get some food."
I start to walk and then realise Violet isn't following me. I turn back around. "Vi?"
She stares blankly where Liam just was. "I'm going to go talk to him."
I look at her like she's insane. "Are you insane?"
She doesn't say anything.
"Violet," I cry, walking back over to her. "You can't talk to him. You saw how he treated Avery, imagine how he'd treat you."
She turns to me. "You go talk to him."
"Are you fucking serious?!"
Again, silence.
"No. Absolutely no."
"You said it yourself, he won't listen to me. He will to you," she argues.
"I think you're forgetting that he hated me in high school, and probably wants to murder me now."
"Just please do it?"
"What the hell am I meant to say?" I cry. I can't believe she even thinks associating with Liam is a good idea. It's like putting yourself in an arena with a raging bull.
"Just talk to him! Ask him how he is, apologise. I don't know, just try?"
I run my fingers through my hair. This is absolutely ridiculous. Why would I even want to talk to Liam? Apart from telling him he needs to treat people with damn respect. He can't just waltz in here acting like he's better than everyone else when he never was, and never will be.
"Please, for me?" Violet looks at me with sad eyes.
Oh fucking hell.
Every time.
"Fine."
She grins and leaps over to me, kissing my cheek. "Yay! And tell me everything that happens. Good luck!"
I roll my eyes. "I hate you for making me do this."
"Love you!"
I groan and head over towards the direction Liam went. It takes me ages to find him but eventually I do, standing alone outside in the small patio. He stands staunch with his hands in his neatly pressed pant pockets and looks down as he kicks a stone around with his feet. For a second I see the teenage boy in him. Of course he still is one, but this new look he's acquired has aged him completely. He looks about twenty four.
