As the final match is underway, I remain in the waiting room, looking on alongside Momo and Denki, who decided to tag along. It is clear they are more concerned about what happened early on.
Speaking of which, I made sure to check on Tokoyami and Dark Shadow. Thankfully, they recovered easily and forgave me for the cruel maneuver. Even so, it doesn't prevent the remorse I feel for releasing my frustration out on him, fight or not.
The match between Katsuki and Eijirou is pretty much going how I expected it. The manly redhead is trying to prolong his quirk and endure, but endurance is not his strong suit - at least not now.
Eventually, Bakugou finally breaks through his opponent's defenses and blasts him away, taking the win.
With the match finished, it leaves the top four:
Shoto Todoroki
Tenya Iida
Adonis Smith
Katsuki Bakugou
Todoroki versus Iida and Bakugou versus me.
I am too deep in thought, staring off at the television. Momo and Denki look at each other, then back at me, wondering what they can do to lighten the mood. Or maybe... feed their curiosity and concern.
"Congratulations, Adonis." Momo awkwardly smiles. "Top four is well-deserved. I'm sure you can make it to the top."
"Guess I will say it then," Denki sighs, scratching the back of his neck. "What happened out there? For a moment, it didn't seem like you were yourself."
"Anger and desperation. It's dangerous when they mix." I shake my head. "I may have stepped into this thing to simply leave my mark, but now, things have changed. You could say I've found my conviction to win this thing."
As I further my explanation, the next match begins. My eyes never leave that television. Iida has already sprung into action trying to secure the win - or that's what I want to think.
It happens so fast. Iida initiates his Recipro Burst, kicking Todoroki in the back of the head. Afterward, not a second is wasted as he grabs his opponent by the garment and makes a run for the edge of the ring... but the unexpected happens.
Shoto punches his ticket into the finals as he freezes Iida's mufflers, letting the ice steadily freeze his entire body.
I stand from my seat. Momo and Denki follow suit. Without notice, they both place a hand on my shoulders. I look between the two to see them gently smiling, giving me an assuring nod.
"If you remember anything, no matter what happens, we're behind you." Denki grins. "Right Momo?"
"Of course," She answers. "Show them what we've already witnessed. Show them you're made to be a hero."
"Thanks, you two." I smile. I walk to the door and open it. There I take one last, deep breath before heading to the ring. "I promise you, I will win... or I'll die trying."
With that said, I take my leave. I begin to pump myself up the closer I get. I hear Present Mic about to call the following bout.
"Alright, folks!! Let's head to the second match of the semifinals!!!" He shouts. On cue, I walk into the sunlight once more, ready to give my all. My eyes are on the prize - and getting to that said prize means overcoming my next obstacle. It doesn't deter me, not the slightest.
Simultaneously, Katsuki and I walk up those stairs onto the battleground. The moment we stand in our respective spaces, neither gaze leaves the other. Katsuki may show a defiant look as his palms are ready to crackle and pop, but it is easy to tell he is anxious.
