For the past few weeks, training was not the only thing that has been done. Aside from the Sports Festival, another event will soon be underway: the Light Music Club's Spring Fling concert, which is much bigger than I expected.
The show will consist of Pop, Rock, and R&B - of course, I am mostly assigned to the rhythm and blues. After a decent amount of time and practice, I can say I am pretty good at playing the piano on such short notice - my fellow clubmates think so, too; enough to perform a few songs in the show.
However, despite the good progress I have made, one thing still throws me off.
Jin's aversion towards me.
If anything, I would like to know why we cannot get along as much as the others. Exactly what is his reason?
Since the Sports Festival has ended, Aizawa grants us two days of rest. I simply make sure to prepare myself for my time in Shibuya with Mirko, spend time with Caleb, Denki, and Momo, train, and practice more on the piano.
Right now, I sit in the clubroom, in front of the piano. With the speakers on so lightly, I listen to Mondo Grosso's instrumental of Labyrinth, bopping my head to the beat. With my hands in position, I am ready to play the piano piece of the song.
I smile to myself as I am fully immersed in the smooth, steady song. I then close my eyes and play.
Needless to say, hard work always pays off. In the short time, thankfully, I was able to pick up a lot and apply it - with ol' sourpuss Jin as my teacher no less.
The beautiful song reaches its end, my Third Eye senses someone's presence. They stroll nearby and lean on, what must be, one of the poles in the room.
I'm pretty sure we all know who that someone may be.
I place my finger on the final key of the song. Soon after, a slow clap is heard in the empty room. Rolling my eyes, I turn to see the vice president continue clapping, stoically looking me in the eye.
"Well done," He says.
"You don't have a smart-ass follow-up this time?" I ask.
"I simply call it how I see it," He replies. "Take it or leave it. With that said, you will be playing this for Hoshido's solo."
Jin heads for the door to the practice stage. That's until I speak up.
"Ya know, I'm glad you're here actually," I say, standing up from my seat. Jin turns around to face me. "Let's be straight up about this. What do you have against me?"
Jin doesn't answer. Instead, he smugly smirks and scoffs at me. I grit my teeth, clenching my fist, and suddenly, the frustration gets the best of me.
«You better answer or else--»
«Or else what?!» Jin interrupts. Oddly enough, despite him catching me off guard, I am not shocked he, of all people, would be this fluent in English.
«Since you understand me so well... Answer. My. Question.»
«You don't belong here.» He answers so sternly. "Unlike everyone else, I do not trust you one bit."
"Why?" I retort. "Exactly, what did I do--?"
«I don't know... maybe Enigma rings a bell.» Instantly, I flinch at the one said word. He returns his sight with a serious glare. He walks up to me, placing his hand on my shoulder, leaning in so I may hear within earshot. «Let me make this crystal clear. As a club, we have worked hard to stay afloat and gain recognition. I refuse to let you drag us down. Fuck up one time and you're done.»
