"H-how did this happen?" Jungkook gulped as he watched at the girl, lying on the hospital bed helplessly. He couldn't believe that she was the one who confronted him just yesterday.

"Don't know," Hobi mumbled as he scanned the papers in his hand. "Her neighbours said that they heard a scream at around 10 pm from her room, and soon after they found her on her body on the concrete of the parking lotm And you know, her floor was on eighth storey?" he said making Jungkook gasp a breath as terror crept over his visuals.

The younger looked at Maria and back at Hobi, who flipped over the page scanning them thoroughly before speaking again. "And when they broke in her apartment, her window was open, which is located right above the parking lot. So, she probably jumped from there-"

Jungkook gulped and neared the girl, as he scanned her poor condition. Her head covered in bandage, limbs wrapped in plasters, a neck supporter and oxygen mask. "Her medical reports?" He asked and Hobi shook his head in incredulity.

"That's even worse," he replied before he looked at the nurse, standing on the other side of the bed, who was preparing the next dose of painkillers to be injected into the patient. Jungkook followed his gaze and looked at the nurse too.

The nurse stopped her actions when she found both of them waiting for her feedback patiently. She nodded before she picked up the clipboard from the edge of Maria's hospital bed and started surveying through it.

"She has spinal fractures which can be a risk to her further spinal injury, primary brain injury, four broken ribs, and comminuted limb fractures, hip fracture, several bruises and cuts all over her limbs, shoulder injury and sprained ankles," She stopped as both the officers raised her brows in anguish and looked at each other.

"Will she be okay?" Jungkook hesitated but soon felt chills down his spine when the nurse sighed a breath and shook her head.

"She was brought here twenty minutes after the fall and she had already lost a lot of blood. I'm surprised myself, that how is she still breathing after such a hazardous fall?"

"You're saying s-she won't survive?" Jungkook inquired, his voice a bit rougher as he gripped on the metal railing of the hospital bed.

"I would've said yes, but I've never seen patients with such cases withstand much long. I don't wanna give you two any false hope, officers. But earlier, I heard the doctors warning her parents about the consequences of her injuries and that she has really low chances of survival,"

"N-no...." Jungkook wailed as he crouched on the floor, his grip tightened around the metal railing as he hung his head low, trembling to himself. "Does Jin hyung and Yoongi hyung know about this?" He asked Hobi in shaky breaths.

"Yes, Yoongi is outside with the others but Jin hyung went back to the station earlier,"

Jungkook raised his head with a teary gaze and in disbelief. "H-his best friend is here, counting her last breaths and you're telling me he returned? W-why?"

Hobi pulled his lips out and shrugged his shoulders, gesturing he was unaware of the matter as well. It was quite for a while, Jungkook broke the silence again.

"How are y'all so sure, that it's a suicide attempt? It could be something else-"

Hobi crossed his arms and shook his head. "No, it can't. Her neighbours, nobody visited her that night or they would've heard the doorbell,"

"What if the person didn't use the doorbell? I don't think the killer would be so careless enough, would he or she?"

"Yes, you're right but we checked her apartment. Everything was clear,  every object seated in their place neat and clean like the way Maria usually keeps them. No fingerprints were found except Maria, her own. And the biggest evidence..." Hobi said as he lifted a transparent ziplock bag with a note in it.
