♦Chapter 111: Whitehanded Solicitude♦
[]Third Person's POV []
Lying on his bed with his upper body curved at the sight of the wound on his hand, which was freshly embed with a bandage, the young master whose irises shone like silver contemplated about the decision that he's made a few moments ago.
In the end, he fessed up what exactly happened with all honesty in front of the duke, enveloped in an absent-minded state from the words that he heard from the lips of the adoptive young lady of the Shevarias.
Just in case, he managed to tell the duke to spare his sister as much as he could, but... he wouldn't know what was to occur when he could only rest in his room right now.
All this time, Lucian one-sidedly took it for granted that Melissa cut her ties with the family despite all the contradicting cries that followed soon after she brought it up at the dining room, supposing that she believed she was unworthy of receiving the treatment given to her, as she realized that she was but a replacement of his father's beloved, deceased daughter.
Thus naturally, he couldn't even expect that the distance she created was actually something saturated with feelings like abhor instead of a slight dislike, as well.
He didn't wish to imagine the least of what could've happened if ever he spouted apologetic words to her, despite lacking of knowledge about her real thoughts. Because if he truly did such a thing, her frustration could've rose with pure disgust at his useless sympathy.
Right... In the first place, I......
Regardless of an unpunctual consciousness of a matter of truth, Lucian finally understood-
Of how he was no better than his own father, when it came to Melissa, his adopted younger sister's issue.
Pitying her situation might've frequently crossed his mind, but deep inside, he was just ignoring the fact that he cared less about her business. He made an excuse of how his ideal family picture could crumble if he dragged another person to be a part of them, only to inwardly deny her existence in the Shevaria Family.
He was no different from Duke Wendell, who similarly couldn't accept the fact that she wasn't the person that he genuinely sought for, in spite of taking advantage of her identical face at the reflection of his eyes, like a sly son of a b*tch.
There couldn't have been any better evidence than him, being incapable of taking the initiative to make a small, fruitful action for the sake of his younger sister's smile.
Thinking that, he couldn't help but turn his head toward the paper bag that he was supposed to gift to the same person, if not for that fight earlier.
"Young master?"
The young heir's stiffened face loosened in a second after the physician called out to him.
"Yes?", he instantly replied, worrying the man in front of him at the same time.
"You seem to be out of it? Are you feeling unwell?"
"Ah- no... I don't particularly have any issues in all other areas."
"Is that so?"
Right after this peaceful conversation reached its ending, a new wave of events approached their way in a matter of time, the moment the head butler made his entrance inside the treated juvenile's room.
"Please excuse me, young duke.", he showed his face in a rather rushed manner.
Lucian was puzzled at the man's odd mannerism and directly questioned it without further ado.
