♦Chapter 44: Stubbornness♦"L-Lady Melissa...?", Aiden called out to me with a sense of uncertainty.
Before I knew it, I showed up my real emotions on the outside.
"O-Oh my, please excuse me for showing you an unpleasant sight.", I said, trying to cover what he just saw, then changed the topic.
"Also, won't we be a bother to Mentor if we go today? We just went there yesterday."
"But... I want to train more."
I was surprised to see how eager Aiden was. That part of him reminded me of the past again.
I smiled. Unlike everybody in the mansion, Aiden was the only one that treats me fairly. As expected, it was a wise decision to have him by my side, though I might've troubled him in a way because of that.
"There is no need to rush things, Aiden. You will become a good swordmaster, and I'm sure of it."
When I uttered those words to him, I could see that he was thrilled hearing my compliment. Yet, he averted his gaze from me as if I've made a mistake in my sentence.
I was bugged by that reaction of his. No matter how many times I thought about it, I didn't notice anything wrong with what I just told him.
"...????????"
My dumb brain couldn't follow that question marks have been vandalized in my face.
I have guessed that Aiden strived to be a great swordmaster that could protect everyone's safety, using the memories of my previous life as a basis, but... Was that not correct in actual?
So then, for what purpose did he wield the sword?
Curiosity made me want to question him about that. However, I stopped myself from doing so. Who knows if it was concerning some private matters after all. If that would be the case, then it was better for me to not pry onto his personal business.
"I guess we might as well go today. I have nothing else to do anyway.", I phrased, leaving behind what I pondered about.
Aiden brightened up, then.
"Mhm.", he replied with a nod, being excited.
"Where do you plan to go again?", a familiar voice called out to us abruptly.
Aiden and I were caught by surprise. And that resulted Aiden to unsheathe his sword and point it right at the opponent's neck.
"Ah...."
His sword immediately slipped out of his hand and fell on the ground.
Aiden's face was enveloped with fear as soon as he saw the opponent's face.
"I-...!!"
I swiftly hid him behind my back and faced the guy that Aiden pointed his sword at.
I stared at the bastard, Lucian with an indifferent expression directed to him.
"Why are you here?", I asked him with my eyes, narrowed.
"Why can't I be here?", he replied with an annoying tone of a kind.
Ever since that night, Lucian and I came to be in bad terms to each other. Rather, I was the one that refused to act so nice to him, and that became the cause of our frequent conflicts.
'I will no longer expect for anything.'
That decision has driven me to a conclusion that I mustn't anticipate for something that will highly not get fulfilled. If I don't move forward from such desire, I'll only wander at the same direction in the future again.
