Chapter 118: From The Sidelines (3)

[]Third Person's POV []

In a short while, the scenery strayed afar from the flashbacks that's been retailed.

Now, the youthful face of the young man who was told to be the main character of the summarized story, has matured enough to the point that he has wrinkled similarly to the state of Duke Wendell's face around seven or eight years before the present time.

"On the day before your mother gave birth of you and Sherryl, she confessed to me about just one thing."

Phrasing those words in front of a beautiful lady aged of seventeen years, and possessed of eyes dyed in a deep pink color alike to his own features, Jeremiah continued to speak.

"Rather than the white, official uniform worn by the Head Priestesses of the temple throughout centuries, what she actually wished to wear was a pretty wedding dress."

"Really...... It was a common yearning that any girl would desire.", he added right after with a very short chuckle, filled with irony.

The woman across his perspective then placed down her teacup on the table between themselves, and slowly opened her soft, pinkish lips.

"For what reason have you decided to tell me about this story, even with the means of disregarding the fact that it's a taboo to mention of the details about the Goddess that you serve?..."

"Uncle.", she referred to the other person.

"......Reason, huh...", saying that, he brought out his right hand and stared at it very intently.

There, he began to see a brief flash of a peculiar image where he grasped a dagger and used it to take one of the maids who came to know the of truth about the twins' birth, as a hostage, threatening the other ones to quit their jobs and keep their mouths shut when it came to the matter, after that.

"Let's see...", the Head Priest's silence didn't last for too long.

"To tell you the truth, I resented your existence as well, to a certain point. Because technically, I hated how you became a burden to my sister as you developed within her womb back in the day."

"That's why, like how I avoided seeing your twin sister's growth and relieved at her death, I refrained to follow Arnina's advice about meeting you at first."

As though she saw through Jeremiah's thoughts, the maiden verbalized the first two words that he was about to utter along its full statement.

"But, now?", she wore a tiny smirk.

"Nah... I'm just glad that I didn't pick the wrong choice; that I was able to protect something within the range of my reach, this time around.", he paid back the expression that she gave him with a smile, freed from the weight of his regrets from the past.

The lady watched such a beautiful sight with eyes of slight envy and yearning, and internally prayed for something along those lines to occur to her someday. However, she stopped in the middle of the process as she was yet again, reminded of the bitterness left on her tongue, roughly because of the unforgettable tales of her past experiences.

The version of herself in the present didn't have much differences from a lost person, endlessly wandering around the globe in hopes of the arrival of true fulfillment.

Retrieving the woman from her lonesome thoughts, the Head Priest began to speak once more, explaining the legitimate purpose of why he brought out the entire discussion in the first place.

"You've grown up well, Melissa.", he uttered with the same vibe as an old man that was setting up flags only to hint out that he was getting closer to death's door or something.
