Chapter 10: Nostalgia♦

While I sat on a chair in front of the mirror, I combed my long, mint green hair carefully.

Ever since I was a child (though I currently am physically a child right now), I took good care of my hair.

Because back when I was still a commoner, a child like me that didn't have a father made me have the doubt that I was a mere orphan, adopted by my mother.

But as I witnessed how I possessed the same hair and irises as my mom, my suspicion easily got cleared. Since that became the proof that I was her genuine daughter.

But...

"I guess I kinda hate it now because of that girl.", I muttered with dissatisfaction.

Just then, someone knocked the door and waited for my permission.

It's so ironic to see how they're being courteous to me now... I thought and said,

"You may enter."

Thereafter, the door opened with a tiny creaking sound. And as the guest entered my room, he pay his respect before stating his business while bowing by the entrance.

So, it's just the old geezer.

It was Giles Tyler, the chief manservant of the mansion. For short, the butler.

As soon as he saw how I was combing my hair without the servants' assistance, he firstly disregarded what he came for and gave me a reminder.

"You needn't to do that by yourself from now on, Milady. That is a task that is given to us, attendants.", he said, smiling like a gentle grandfather.

He could say that but in the end, he didn't do a thing to discipline the maids that hadn't serve me well, after I lost the Duke's favor. In other words, he's just another fake that pretends to be respectful to me.

Either way, that normal-looking reminder of his could actually be translated in a different meaning.

It was inwardly more of a ridicule saying, 'Commoners really are a hassle for not being able to interpret the most basic behavior that an aristocrat should have.' or something.

There was no way that anyone in this mansion would easily accept a lowly orphan like me that easily, in the first place.

Even the maids... I overheard their whispers behind my back stating how unpleasant it was to serve someone like me.

However, I simply let it pass for it was a fact that I was someone that doesn't meet their qualification.

But after living as a noble for so many years, I came to know that it was something not to overlook for no matter how badly I was in their opinion, I was still their master. And so, in order to make them surrender to me, I started to enact the role of the villainous lady of Shevaria.

Well... to say it frankly, I also enjoyed to see how they shivered from terror when I am present.

From then, their rude attitude toward me has been halted momentarily. But when they've been aware that without the Duke supporting me from behind, I would just be nothing, they returned back to how they behaved.

I SO wanted to punish them for doing this to me but I would've end up to be the one in fault since the Duke no longer stood for me that time. Thus, I couldn't do anything to solve the issue in the end.

That's why this time-

I'll make them regret what they did to me.

"More than that, didn't you have something to say to me, Mister?", I asked with an innocent smile.

"Please forgive my rudeness, Milady.", he apologized then stated his business.

"The Duke requests for your presence at the garden."

After that I was speechless for a while, being nervous of facing someone I haven't met for a long time.

But soon, I recomposed myself with a reply to hide my discomfort.

"Is it for the tea party?"

"Yes. The Duke asked me to escort the young lady."

"Is that so."

After the conversation, I stood and went to the destination with the butler that was ordered to guide me there.

Back in the days like this, the Duke and I always had a tea party while we viewed the blooming, colorful flowers at the garden.

When I was still an adult, I could only consider those moments as a mere nostalgic dream after what I went through after so many years.

And if I were to count the years after we last met, it might be around eleven years or so.

Even if we lived on the same roof, the mansion was spacious. Spacious enough for us to not meet after the incidents where we still interacted to each other.

Or perhaps, it was intentional for him to never get involved with me at all cost.

Still, meeting him would've been just a waste of time since it's not like he would pay attention to me during those times, at any rate.

I was abandoned in a way.

But...

As we took some steps at the garden, I whispered with wonder along with the passing wind.

"I wonder why he didn't kick me out..."

"Milady?"

"It's nothing-"

"Sherryl."

As soon as I heard a man's voice, shouting one's name, I widened my eyes and looked to where it came from.

Then with my jaw that slightly dropped, I had a bitter expression on my face as I bit my lower lip.

I recognized that it was the Duke, calling me by the name that he gave me after he brought me from the orphanage.

Sherryl Faire von Shevaria.

It was quite of a delightful name of a kind.

And as the Duke addresses me that way, he would always gaze at me tenderly, as if I was his real daughter.

Ah........... as expected... I thought, looking downwards as I went to the table where the two of us were about to leisurely spend our teatime.

.......The one he sees in me-

Is only Sherryl.
