Another day had come to a close as the final bell rang for the day. Holden, Axel, and Toby were all on edge as they were tantalizingly close to the trip. "I'm so excited", Axel said, "It's like I've got butterflies in my stomach". Holden and Toby laughed as this was their friends first real holiday. "You're like a five-year-old going to Disneyland", Holden said, laughing, "But instead, you're an eighteen-year-old teenager getting excited over a kind of shitty school trip camping at Hill Highs campsite". Axel gently punched Holden on his shoulder as Toby and Holden laughed the joke. "Dicks", Axel said, lighting a cigarette and blowing smoke up in the air."I can't hang tonight guys, sorry", Toby said, "I have a huge paper to write for History". Holden and Axel nodded, "That's cool man", Axel said, "Holden, you wanna come over and hang?". Holden shook his head, "I have too much shit to pack and make an excuse for why I'm not going to be home". Axel nodded, accepting his friends were busy. "I'll see you at school tomorrow", Toby said, departing from his friends. Holden and Axel said goodbye to their friend and they went their separate ways as well. It was going to be a long evening for Axel.

When Holden reached home, he was yet again greeted with silence. He had thought of a decent enough excuse for why he was going to be away and found his mom, Peyton in the living room watching the news as his dad, Gideon slept. "Mom", Holden whispered, getting her attention. Peyton looked at her delinquent son through her icy-blue eyes and pushed her ratty, blonde hair out of her face. "What is it?", she whispered. "The schools having a charity lock-in for the weekend", Holden began, "So I'll be away for the weekend".Peyton rolled her eyes, "We wouldn't have missed you anyway", she said. This pissed Holden off but he held his tongue as he didn't want to get grounded or more disowned than he already was. With that, he left his mother and went into his room and found a bag to start packing his stuff for the trip. He took a deep breath and packed his sleeping bag, a torch, snacks and a large hunting knife Holden was gifted for his thirteenth birthday. He thought he could impress his friends with his knife skills and packed them in a small compartment in his bag. He knew Toby was bringing a surprise and so was Axel, so this was going to be his.
