I show Courtney all the children and teenagers playing, the adults watching and laughing or cooking, the older pack members sitting around talking and laugh and I tell her that everyone here has a purpose and a place in the pack. We are all a family and you do not hurt family, when I stop, she has tears pouring down her face and I pull her into a hug. At first she is a bit hesitant but then she hugs me back

‘Come on let’s get you some clothes and you can have a shower’ we head upstairs and into my bedroom

‘He said he was my mate, he lied, for a joke’ I try not to stiffen. I nod and turn to face her, giving her my full attention.

‘Everyone knew, my brother and parents, everyone’ she looks down and tears fill her eyes ‘he played me for a week and then when I said I loved him, h-he’ she chokes on a sob and I hand her a tissue ‘he laughed in my face and said no one will ever love me. He said he wasn’t my mate and that everyone feels sorry for my mate, because he gets me, the ugly scarred girl’ she says and I feel my wolf rising in anger, that is no way to treat a person!

‘Who was your pack?’ we both turn in shock and look at Daniel, who walks over and wraps his arms around my waist

‘Bullet pack’ she says and

‘We have an alliance with them’ he growls ‘that is ending now’ he kisses the top of my head and walks out of the room and Courtney starts to sob louder

‘What’s wrong?’ I ask shocked

‘You are both being so nice! I don’t deserve this, I am sorry, I am causing problems already’ she sobs

‘Courtney, look at me’ she looks up and I hand her jeans and a long sleeved top

‘Go have a shower, get refreshes and come out and we can talk’ I smile and she nods and walks to Daniel and I’s bathroom ‘Use whatever you want’ I smile and she walks into the bathroom and I hear the click of the lock, and I head downstairs and check the time, I have four hours until I have to be ready for whatever Daniel and I are doing tonight.

‘Mummy!’ Connor comes running down and I scoop him up into my arms

‘Hey little man, wanna come with me to look for Aunty Maxine?’ I ask and he grins and nods

‘Hey!” Maxine chirps, from beside the pool with Damon

‘Hey!’ I smile and sit down

‘Mummy!’ Connor tugs on my shirt and I look down

‘Yes, sweetie?’ I smile

‘I wanna go find daddy, he pway with me’ he says and I can’t help but grin when he sometimes messes up his words, it’s just so cute!

‘OK, sweetie, can you wait till mummy finishes talking to Maxine?’ I ask and he nods and starts bouncing impatiently and Damon chuckles

‘Come on, let’s leave mummy and go find daddy’ Damon swoops him in the air and they take off laughing
