We need to talk...

Celestina's POV

The day seemed unecessarily snowy and long. The entire house froze up from the cold. The driveway was filled up with snowdrift. I guess, Winter is really coming. That was terrible. I hope you realize that. My mind quipped. So early in the morning.

The snowflakes descended slowly. I watched in silence through the frosted window. I was freezing in my shorts. I was used to the cold. That few months in Russia really changed my perspective about winter. I didn't mind the cold. It was constantly hot and humid back in Italy.

It had been a long week. The gang has been calling me out all week. I had to take a break from the winter break. I mostly had to do paperwork for the businesses that I would soon inherit from my father. I have a huge privilege but it isn't easy. A woman in an important leadership position is still hard to grasp for some people in my own family. I have to keep reaffirming my worth over the position.

The man seemed battered against the bright room. Blood dripped from his face and head. He rolled his head tiredly and groaned in pain. The rope seemed to tightened more and more as he moved his wrists. He eyed the knots in the rope with fascination. It seemed very intricate. Oddly, he felt special.

The pain returned and he groaned louder. The pain seemed so familiar. It was just his head but why did the pain seem everywhere? He peered down to see his shirt soaked in blood. Did they split open his chest? There was something really comforting in the pain and...

He started smiling and then cackling. He coughed up blood for a while but he continued laughing. The guards outside seemed bewildered about the laughter coming from inside. Before they could check it out, their boss pushed open the door. Two people followed them inside. The door shut and no sound ever resonated in that room.

My stomach grumbled in hunger. Alright, I'll budge. Let's have breakfast and complete the new stack of paperwork before lunch with the girls.
You are just standing here, talking to yourself. My mind popped back. Nobody asked you. Nobody ever does, I'm just here always and forever. Creepy.

Swapping my shorts for pants, I walked downstairs. I slowed down at the end of the stairs. The house seemed eerie. It's hard to not miss having so many people in your house. It seems like I can't go back for the break. My family and Alex's family particularly seemed saddened by that fact. The twins offered to meet me here. My father refused all offers. He has even ordered the family not to contact me for a while. They hardly listen.

My phone beeped with a new message in rebellion against my father's orders.

Zia Andrea: Non crederai a quello che tuo cugino......🌈🖤🤍💛🌷⚘🥂❤🤎💝🌺💙💜💚🧡🎉🌌🎁🌸La prego, gli dica di stare attento.

There was a long paragraph about what my cousin did from my aunt. And bunch of colorful emoticons. She is really figuring out how to use a phone. Another message popped up.

Dante: Non credere a mia madre😡

Of course, my cousin texted me saying I shouldn't believe his mother.

Celeste: Perché no?

Dante: Che è pazzia!!🤬

Celeste: Attento a come parli.

Dante: She is just lying so she could talk to you. Don said no. Actually, he is crazy.

Celeste: He is your uncle and my father.
Hai dimenticato con chi stai parlando.

Dante: Scusa sorellina!🙃

This brightened my mood for a while. It reminded of my out of control crazy family. My father is definitely hiding something. I'm guessing he is waiting for me to bulldoze through his plans of keeping me here. He will expect my call, hoping to have a heated discussion. I could picture where the conversation would lead to. So, I didn't bother having the conversation.

After a small breakfast, I went back to work. My family kept texting me stories, to keep in the loop. They didn't realize it just made me miss them more. I muted their notifications.

Time passed and silence stood in solitary. It felt like I muted my mind which was constantly rushing. I wad buried in the work but now it seemed to disappear. Thoughts invaded my mind again. A headache was brewing at the back of my head. I repeatedly hit my head back into the springy chair. Before I could become entirely suicidal, a beep interrupted my thoughts.

Let's go party!!!

Chocopie🙈: You promised you would come out to lunch.

Princesspink🙊: Broooooo!!!!

Princesspink🙊: Sis!!!

Princesspink🙊: 1

Princesspink🙊: 2

Princesspink🙊: 3

Princesspink🙊: ........

Princesspink🙊: 57

Princesspink🙊: 58

Princesspink🙊: 59

Bluehair🙉: Celestina Quinn, come here and save us.

Princesspink🙊: 60

Chocopie🙈: If you don't get here within the next 15 minutes, I'm telling them what happened with the yellow towel and pink hammer.

Princesspink🙊: ......69

Bluehair🙉: You can't ditch us, please come fast. Alena has started singing. The sheer horror.😱

Chocopie🙈: It wasn't a warning or even a threat. It is a promise.

Princesspink🙊: *voice message*

There was high pitched screeching which I later realized was Alena singing. Ouch, sounds like dying whale mating call. My mind made a comment. Agreed.

Chocopie🙈: Once upon a time, there was this yellow towel which wasn't originally yellow. A pink hammer and a curious child changed its fate.

Blondie🙅🏼: I'll be there in 10. DON'T. EVEN. THINK. ABOUT. TELLING. THAT. STORY.

I rushed to my closet and reminded myself to wear more layers. Grabbing the boots in my hand, I trampled through the snowdrift to my car. I speeded to the cafe and reached in six record-breaking minutes. I almost got in an accident but who cares? The not-so yellow towel is not a story meant for the public. I can NEVER allow it. True, that. My mind agreed.

I ran inside after parking my car. Pushing open the door, I leaped inside. "I'm here!" I cried out. Carlotta looked over with an evil smile. I clenched my teeth in anger while I trotted over to the table.

"Well, now, I really want to know the story about the towel." Alena leaned over with curious eyes. Lucy furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "The yellow towel." Carlotta and I jinxed. We looked at each other and I shook my head and she nodded while shrugging. We continued talking through our faces. "Earth to you, guys." Alena waved her hands in-between us. "What's the story?" Lucy asked.

"Vous ne vous en sortez pas bien dans l'histoire, non plus." I smiled as I took a sip of her drink. She laughed nervously. "Right. It's not a big deal." They didn't look convinced but they just nodded.

The conversation mellowed out after an hour. Alena and Lucy had some work. "I think, we should leave now. We'll catch a bus back." They stood up and gave us a hug and left. I realized I haven't been alone with Carlotta in quite some time. Ooooooh, trouble. Shut up.

"We need to talk."

Shit, the universal language for you are in trouble.
