Look Away

Celestina's POV

I finally stopped driving aimlessly. If it weren't for the GPS, I would have no clue to where I was. Or how to go back. I didn't want to yet. A sense of desperation washed over me. Why is this bothering me so much?

Stepping out of the car, I stood over the railing. From the hill area, the city seemed very small. And bright. Filled with life and secrets. Pushing the thought away, I took a deep breath in. It was the beginning of the evening. It was darkening already. I couldn't find it in myself to care.

The hood of the car was burning. I could feel the radiating heat, keeping me warm. The wind was chill. It was difficult to breath and I survived the evening.

Against the car, I felt my eyes drift. I shouldn't sleep here. Not safe. I really couldn't care any less. In a long time, I felt light. It was immediately replaced by the weight of the world. I tried to grasp the comfort which left me vulnerable.

Sighing out loud, I moved to leave. I heard a stirring sound down the road. Reaching for my door, I stood still, waiting.

The sound got louder and nearer. I hung to one emotion, feeling comfort wrap me again. Anger coursed my veins. A car made a swerve to the same road I was in. Not intentionally. I relaxed slightly.

The car parked a little far away hit towards the railing. A boy steeped out. I recognised him before he turned around. So familiar. My lips curled. I looked away, sighing out loud.

I heard the footfalls nearing me. 13 steps. Walk, walk. 6 steps. Shuffling, walk. 2 steps. "Celestina?" I looked over. I mock narrowed my eyes. "Are you stalking me?" His eyes wandered away and a small smile lit his face up. "Of course I am, I placed a tracker on you earlier today."

"Makes a lot more sense." He let out a mocking laugh. "Do I appear as a stalker?" I shrugged nonchalantly. "I wouldn't put it past you." He raised a eyebrow. "No offense." I quickly added. A more prominent smile made way to his face.

He looked momentarily distracted. I waved my hand over his eyes. "What?" Feeling self-conscious, I looked behind me. "I'm trying to find a way not to be offended." I smirked. I mockingly nodded. He rolled his eyes and clicked his tongue. "Can't find one."

I didn't respond. I looked away. His image was stuck in my head. His sapphire blue eyes looked darker. His hair looked messed as if he ran his fingers through them too many times. The little voice inside whispered, to straighten it out. Stop! "Stop what?"

He sounded genuinely curious. I shook my head. Can't believe I said that out loud. "You were talking to yourself, weren't you?" His tone was one of amusement. I looked directly at him. "Yeah, what is it called? Expert opinion." Gesturing to myself, I sneered at him.

He laughed. "Alright....." He seemed like he wanted say something. Rather ask something. "Spit it out, watching you pretend being hesitant and confused is making me want to hurl." He chuckled out loud for this. He raised his hand in mock surrender.

"Just something, Alec mentioned to me." He shook his head. "Is this about your name?" He smiled ruefully at me. Crap, look away! "It's kind of my fault. I should have introduced myself before stalking you." He saluted. "Gianluca Williams." Why? My favourite name? Why?

"Celestina Quinn." I saluted back. A giddy feeling rumbled my body. Such a silly thing to do. Shut up! "What brings you here?" I wasn't sure whether he meant it or not. I knew my answer but still. "Your out of world looks and most virtuous personality."

"Finally, I thought you would never admit to it...." He took his phone out. "Say it again, let me record it." I rolled my eyes. He got distracted by his phone. That reminded me. I checked my phone. Alex's messages had its stinging effect.

It was about him. He is right there. Talking and surprisingly, having fun with me. Was he really being honest? "I don't like keeping anything in my mind." I wasn't saying this but he took the words out of my mouth. "I just want to know, are you being honest?"

I had the absurd feeling of laughing till it aches. A man after my own heart. "Do you want me to be honest about that?" All smile drained from his face. He was being serious. But he smiled plainly, "That's the point." He sounded reassured.

"As much as I hate it, no, I have not been honest." I stated with an equal rigour. His jaw clenched and he smirked. Shrugging, he nodded. "What about you, Luca?" His name rolled off with a sense of satisfaction. It's just a name. It's just a boy.

"No, me neither, Celeste." I ignored his emphasis.

It was a long silence. We were trying to outstare each other. Our phone rang at the same time. We both looked away. It was Alexa and my father. The timing was impeccable.

Alex: So...?

Dad: What happened?

Before texting out the words, I peered at Luca. I pressed send button easily.

Tina: Nevermind, it's just a boy.

I send the same message to each of them.

It was the first lie I had told them.

Luca's  POV

After being interrupted from the stare down, I re-read the text. Alex had again asked me to consider being a gentleman and give her space. Another text about how to woo her. Feeling the ridiculous claims he might say after my message, I still didn't think twice in sending it.

Luca: Nevermind, she is just some girl.

Alec: Should I send you some websites on how to capture a girl's heart? The non-creepy way?

I didn't respond. Putting my phone away, feeling I was being rude to her, I turned to her. She had tucked her phone away too.

Her hair lashed in the wind and her eyes shone bright in the moon light. Look away. She did something I had never seen her do in front of me before. My heart leaped

She smiled.
