Celestina's POV
I couldn't sleep. Alex's words echoed in my head. Just two more years. I will go back. Back to family. I grabbed my phone from the nightstand and opened gallery. For the first time, I go through the images of my family. All my paternal side. My mom was an orphan who didn't have a family. The phone immediately rang and an unknown number flashed.
It might be asshole or someone else. After exactly 4 rings and 6 seconds, I picked up the phone. I didn't speak a word nor did I breath directly in the phone. It was eerily silent. "Buona Notte, Bella." The line was disconnected and all I heard was silence.
I cursed incoherently. If this was a prank, then my family is dead. I will shoot all of them or better strangle them with my bare hands. I called father despite the clock showing 2:34. He will be awake. "Celestina?" I could hear the raw surprise in his voice. He told not to call unless any huge trouble like if I was kidnapped and sold to the Japanese government for my brains.
"If it is a prank, then not funny." It wasn't a huge surprise that I sounded so off handed and informal with my father. The only one who read my emotions and knew me better than me. "Di cosa stai parlando?" He slipped to Italian if he means business. "The call just now. Ask the cousins if they did. If not, this would be a problem." (What are you talking about?)
On the other side, it was silent. I knew he contemplating what to say. "I checked and it was just a prank call. They were having a sleepover." The pit in my stomach grew as he lied smoothly. I knew it wasn't my cousins or any one simple. This simply amplified the mystery. Whoever did this they did it to get under father's nerve.
"You know I can't lie to you, right?" I asked him slowly and softly. Scared that the silence broken would never be the same. Of course, it will never be. "Si, tesoro." He sighed. "You keep forgetting you can't lie to me either." He gritted his teeth and I unclenched my fists, calming myself. "Farò in modo di non fare questo sbaglio di nuovo." I didn't reply. (I'll make sure not to make this mistake again.)
"I won't ask you again. You have two choices. Either tell me the truth or don't tell anything. Non mentire." I didn't give him a chance to explain. I looked at the time and it was 3:17. Most of our conversations are filled with silence. 'Our silence make up for the useless socially sanctioned conventions we need to follow.' Father used to say that a lot.
I went back to sleep and exhaustion washed over. I fell into a dreamless exhausting sleep. I didn't feel refreshed after waking up. Now, I have a raging headache. I had the most steamy and quickest shower ever. It was all a blur and I was downstairs with my bag in hand. I dwelled on whether to call him or not. It wasn't anger. It never was. It was disappointment.
"Hey, Tina." I looked up to see Alex holding my car keys. I reached to take it from him. He moved away, hovering. "From the complex look, I can tell you heard what happened. Don't interfere in-between us." I warned Alex. He smiled tentatively and walked out the door. "Give my keys back, I can't walk to college. I'm not getting on a bus."
"I'm driving." That's all he said.
I ran outside to argue with him but he had a serious commanding look. Great, protective bastards. I got in without a battle which must have surprised him. "What? No fake death threats? No more 'ti ammazzo, cazzo.'?" I rolled my eyes. My response to everything in this persona.
He was driving for a long time now. "Is it the silent treatment?" He sighed. It reminded of my father. He sounded the same. He sounded defeated. We reached the college and I got out. No use of grudges against family. He didn't do anything. I reached and kissed his cheek. I smiled tiredly at him.
I walked to my locker and took the psychology textbooks. Why are there so many books? I can read all the boys and girls in here except one. "Hello, there. Social butterfly!" I sighed and turned to find asshole next to me. "Do you sniff me out like a dog?" I questioned him.
He smiled. "The sweet snarky bitchy smell? Anybody with half a brain can actually see it." He emphasised. I wanted to roll my eyes but I couldn't be bothered. He challenged with a raise of eyebrow. I wanted to really back down. "So you are a dog and I'm a bitch. What's new?"
Why did I even reply him? The previous conversation in the morning seemed long forgotten. I had relaxed in his presence. Asshole. "Celestina—" He halted in middle. What no bitch? What no witch of west? What no Cruella? That isn't the asshole I know and love.
His sapphire eyes were glazed with intelligence and were calculative. His eyes looked lighter as if he was incredibly calm but it looked anything but calm. All of previous apprehension vaporised and he looked simply not his age. He was too smart. His eyes eyes were raw and honest as if out to get your dark secret.
He flashed a smirk, slipping into his persona. "Do me a favour." I decided to humour him. I nodded along mockingly. "Why not? Your majesty?" He looked at me. Like looked at me in the eye. "I'm not coming for the psychology class." Ugh!
"It's like at 2 in the afternoon. How the hell do you know about your future?" His gaze moved behind me. I got whatever it was. I rolled my eyes and walked away.

"You have got to be fucking kidding me. Do you really think it's funny?" I muttered through my teeth. I was clenching my fists so hard that it was bruising. And they had the guts to laugh. I moved forward to grab my....
