CHAPTER FOUR
THE PROTECTION OF A GOD───── ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ──────
"I HAVE A question," I couldn't help but blurt.
The day hadn't started the best but I was making the best of it by annoying the God of poetry. I didn't even have to look over at him to know he was rolling his eyes. That move though was a little justified as I had been asking multiple questions from the moment they told me my importance in this... quest.
But me having so many questions was also understandable so I didn't let guilt (because every time he let out an annoyed huff, I was feeling more and more guilty for being so curious) throw me off my game and continued annoying the God that was taking me home with whatever came to my mind.
For whatever reason, we were taking a car back. Not that we were very far off my home but Apollo insisted we take his car - Aphrodite (I was still somewhat refusing to her mom, it just seemed too soon and pretty weird for me to do so) told me he just liked to show off and honestly, the moment I stepped outside and was greeted by that shiny gold Ferrari, I knew she was right.
And Apollo had every right to gloat about it because that car was beautiful. I have only seen cars like that on my computer and almost all of them had gold wallpaper on and the actual colour of the car was hidden underneath but after hearing me say that the wallpaper looked really good on it, Apollo's face turned horrified.
He explained to me that the car was a gift from his sister when she couldn't go to a family meeting with him and he had to endure the Olympian council on his own. He seemed pretty offended about my comment and at first, had been very reluctant to answer my questions about what was real and what the humans had written down as greek mythology.
Thankfully, after some time he realised that ignoring me was probably worse since I kept pestering him like there was no tomorrow. Still, though, there were times where I wouldn't ask anything because my mind kept drifting off to the car - it was that gorgeous.
"Ugh, what?" He took a quick glance at me before turning back to the road. Ah, New York traffic. We were going to be there for a while which meant more questions for me and by the way Apollo groaned, I knew he thought of the same thing too. "What could it possibly be now? Because I feel like I have answered all the questions in the universe,"
I couldn't help but chuckle, ignoring his little comment before asking my question, "You said that I woke up earlier than usual and was protected by that black charm, right?" He had previously explained to me the difference between charms and black or dark charms.
From what I remember, a dark charm was one that was cast by a God of the Underworld while a simple one was the one cast by a God of the Upperworld. Nymphs and other creatures could cast charms too but once in their element and less powerful.
As for charms in general, Apollo had explained that they were a fraction, a very small piece of the person that created them. They can grant protection, some powers for a short while or even elevate someone's powers.
He had also mentioned that the charm that was given to me without my knowledge was both for protection hence the sphere and for growth as it had helped me break free from his powers when I charm spoke myself into moving the first time I woke up in there - there being one of Apollo's temples apparently.
The temple didn't really look like a temple but a hotel but he had told me he made it look like that for mortals so that they wouldn't question it and all. And for a split second, he had allowed me to see how bright and mesmerising it actually looked.
