CHAPTER TEN
FRIENDS───── ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ──────
WE DIDN'T END up going back to the motel after that.
We had agreed that it would be more beneficial and not to mention safer if we didn't do so and just continued with our new plan. Of course, not everyone was exactly happy with that since Cosmo had to leave his bag behind meaning he had no clothes or other weapons except his daggers that followed him everywhere.
Which was why we found ourselves driving back to Los Angeles to Cosmo's apartment for him to get some stuff before we left for Greece. We didn't have a plan as to what exactly we were going to do after but for now, that seemed enough. Maybe if we were spontaneous, the Underworld god wouldn't be able to figure out our next moves and we really needed the element of surprise. Especially after we lost our first one back at the motel.
The three of us didn't really speak much as he drove us there. Actually, the only time we said something was when Cosmo got dizzy and asked me to drive the rest of the way after he put his address in the GPS.
I didn't bother him much as I could see he wasn't really feeling that well and Tempest had fallen asleep after a few minutes of me driving so the only person keeping me company was myself. Not that I minded much at first since I was just trying to make sure I was following the GPS correctly but after a while, my mind started wandering.
It was extremely difficult to think of anything else but my encounters with the Underworld gods. Each of them seemed to hate but there was also another pattern. Whenever they met me, they looked at me as if I was nothing but dirt under their shoes and that they would be done with me in no time. It felt really good, now that I thought about it, that I was able to prove them wrong.
Especially their King.
Hades had tried belittling me so many times when he appeared in my mind. He thought he would achieve something but all he got was an even angrier demigod in return.
Damn, saying that felt weird. Even though I was thrust inside this world a few weeks ago, I hadn't exactly digested this. I mean I finally knew who my mother was and that I probably had more family than I could ever dream of but nothing about this felt good. I didn't exactly have the reunion I had dreamed of with her; she had only appeared to me because she was ordered to. I was pretty sure she would have kept her existence a secret had Hades not posed a threat to the Olympians.
My hands tightened on the wheel while my short hair stuck to my neck because of the heat - I had still to get used to its new height even though it looked kind of cute. Even thinking about it made me so angry. While I was kind of glad I got some kind of closure, a big part of me wished that I hadn't met her. My life before this felt so blissful even if I had thought it was so boring at the time. Boring seemed so appealing at this moment.
And not to mention this whole quest. Everything about this felt like a fucking dream. I didn't know how to explain it but there was something about this that felt so surreal - probably the part about gods and monsters trying to kill me and you know, existing - that every minute of the day I felt like something would happen and then I would wake up with a gasp in my apartment in New York.
But this wasn't a dream.
The gods really existed, I was really part goddess and most of all, I couldn't return back home till this was all finished.
A part of me knew though that there was no way I would be returning home. My dad's face flashed in the back of my mind and I fought really hard not to release the sob that was threatening to get out. I just missed him so much. But I also didn't want to embarrass myself in front of the others. They had been to so many quests before this one and not once did they show a sign that they missed their families. I didn't want to seem like a crybaby. So I took a deep breath and turned left just like I was instructed before parking just outside Cosmo's apartment building.
