CHAPTER SIXTEEN
FEAR OF LOSS───── ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ──────
I WAS A fool for thinking this was going to be a simple flight before all the chaos that was bound to find us in Greece. I was expecting at least a few minutes of silence and peace before diving into a battle we weren't sure we were going to win.
But no, chaos was already waiting for us inside that plane.
We probably looked sick to our stomachs when we entered because the flight attendants were quick to assure us that the flight was going to be okay. My hands trembled a bit as I held on to Cosmo's black shirt from behind. I wasn't scared but I was intimidated. Then, the flight attendant closer to me also mentioned that the plane wasn't going to get any more passengers other than the few people behind us so we could sit wherever we wanted as if that was meant to calm us down. But that wasn't why we looked ready to jump out of it the first chance we got.
Because they were wrong; the plane was already full. Just not with living passengers.
I had no idea why they couldn't see them this time but fortunately or unfortunately (the jury was still out), we still could. The ghosts' eyes trailed after us as we walked towards our assigned and empty seats. I couldn't help the shudder that went through my body as the feeling of being watched multiplied the more we walked inside the plane.
I thought they were just there to intimidate us (which they had succeded) as all three of us felt uncomfortable sitting between two rows of dead people's spirits. I heard Tempest make a crude comment behind me when one of them tried to trip her but I didn't turn around to look. My eyes stayed trained on the ones I could see in front of me, trusting her to keep me safe from behind. I did, however, offer her my hand till we found our seats.
The moment we sat down though, the ghosts in the seats in front of us sprang into action. They turned around as if to greet us, screeches leaving their mouths as their red eyes filled with rage, telling me that Hades was once again amplifying their emotions and using them to get to me.
Well, not this time fucker.
I didn't know if we could be affected by his powers even if he just intended them for the ghosts because a blazing shot of fury sharpened my eyesight. It felt like zoning in on a target but I didn't allow myself much time to think about it. I willed the familiar feeling of pressure behind my eyes I get every time they change from their usual brown colour to that bright purple come, sending shivers down my spine as I poured every ounce of energy I had - which wasn't much because I was exhausted - to my voice. "You will do well to turn around and shut the fuck up,"
Lately, I have been underestimating how powerful my voice can be because I wasn't expecting them to actually do it.
Well, I thought it maybe would work for a few minutes and then they would turn around just in time to get on my nerves again. I haven't used my powers for a long period of time. Usually, the person that I have used them on either vanishes or breaks free after a while.
But they never did.
For the whole flight, we stayed unbothered by anyone, enjoying a few hours of sleep with one of us always keeping watch. It started with Cosmo, then me and then Tempest who wanted to check some maps and look some stuff up. The ghosts never left the plane though. I didn't know if it was because they were afraid of phasing through the material and falling down on the ground to continue to torment people or because their order had been to fly with me to Athens but thankfully, they never bothered us again. They just stared.
