CHAPTER THIRTEEN
SCARED LITTLE HALFLING───── ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ──────
I WANTED TO smack that god-awful smirk from his pretty little face.
Let's be perfectly clear, while the lord of the Underworld was getting on my very last nerve with his attitude, I couldn't deny how unbelievably attractive he was. With his slightly curly black mess that he called hair that had my stomach doing flips and his incredibly blue that I could most definitely get lost into, I could one hundred per cent understand why Persephone had left the Upperworld for this.
Hades wasn't muscular per se but he was lean in all the places that mattered and they were giving his three-piece suit all the justice it needed. I could notice a few black patterns - nothing too specific for me to identify - peaking from his neck and wrists and they left me intrigued, wanting to know what the God had placed permanently on his skin. He had what seemed to be a Rolex on his right wrist and a detailed cane on the other.
The latter had an intricate design; the bottom of it, I couldn't see because of the shadows that curled around Hades' feet but lots of swirls and cursive lines were covering its body. Then they all curled around the handle which was a fist-sized skull with white-hot flames coming out of its mouth. Where a pair of eyes should have been, there were two precious stones - ruby for the left eye and sapphire for the right. The flames were wrapping around the god's hand but he didn't seem affected by them.
Instead, his whole undivided attention was entirely on me.
And gods above when I noticed that he was still smirking at me, even more now that he noticed that I was checking him out, I wanted to kill him even more. That or myself, whichever to save me from more embarrassment. I felt some heat licking my cheeks as I shifted my eyes away from him for one second to collect myself before immediately looking back at him.
But he didn't speak again after his greeting. It looked like he was waiting for me to say something, but I couldn't really form words or even sentences at that moment. I was still trying to understand where I was and how I had gotten there. That and I was incredibly flustered from getting caught earlier.
I cursed myself under my breath when I finally stopped ogling the dark-haired god in front of me and finally took notice of my surroundings. I was a fucking idiot. Just one look and I could recognise the place without ever being there before; hell.
Or the Underworld, it was pretty much the same thing to me.
Because there, in Hades' domain, I was helpless and most importantly, alone.
And unsure of how long I had before my visit became permanent.
The place around me was dark but not as much as I had imagined it. For whatever reason - probably the media and the images Aphrodite and Apollo painted in my head - I imagined this whole place to be in a dark-ish red hue with skulls and other body parts decorating its every inch. I expected ghosts and screams and so much more chaos.
Instead, I found something more... peaceful.
I couldn't see more than a few feet ahead but what I could notice seemed to fascinate me. Behind Hades was the darkest place of all, a sudden redness coming from within it that created such a dramatic effect on the god with its shadows and tone. I couldn't seem more than that and something it told it was because he didn't want me to see it.
On my left, I could see some grass fields before they disappeared into the gloominess that surrounded the whole place. They looked so normal, unlike anything you would think to see in the Underworld. There were flowers and trees and so much life. It brought a sense of calmness. I could spot a few places here and there where the ground was glowing from within but the fields on my right stole my attention almost immediately.
