CHAPTER SEVEN
AN ENTRANCE FOR THE UNDERWORLD───── ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☾ ⋆⁺₊⋆ ──────
"IN WHICH UNIVERSE did you think it would be a good idea to give her a loaded gun for her first try?" I couldn't stop myself from dropping the said gun in the ground as the loud bang had made my ears ring and scared the shit out of me. I think I heard Cosmo curse from behind me as another gunshot rang in the air, making me scream and jump back a few steps.
When we first agreed to train, I had no idea that we start with guns immediately. As soon as we had hit the road, Cosmo was yapping about food while searching around a restaurant nearby on the GPS. Tempest, on the other hand, had turned back to look at me and asked me if I wanted her to train me. I would have been a fool if I had denied her offer. There's no way I was going to survive this with no training so with a polite beaming smile, I had accepted and she has told me that we would start after our late lunch.
I was still getting accustomed to the Californian weather so I had asked for them to lower the windows. My clothes had stuck uncomfortably on my body and sweat was covering most parts of my body as both the other passengers looked to be okay. I was a bit envious of that and I also hoped that we wouldn't stay in this state for a long time, I needed a bit of cold.
The yearning for the New York weather made me miss home terribly. It made me miss my dad. Sure, it hadn't been that much time since I left but the fact that I may never go back send a wave of sadness through. I didn't want that hug to be the last I got from my dad, I didn't want our last words together to be about saving the world. That sparked a flame inside; I was going to survive this, I was going to do whatever I could to do so.
I just hoped that it wouldn't burn out.
Soon enough, Cosmo had found a small dinner a few miles away and we had found ourselves getting into a small booth in the back of it just to be sure. Tempest was telling me all about keeping low and how not to attract attention to ourselves while the only male of the group was salivating at the different vegetarian options they offered.
We had told him to order for us too - I wasn't that much of a picky eater so I just shrugged and told him to get me whatever he thought I would like while Tempest had specifically requested something mushroom and tofu free which he respected by getting all of us animal style fries and a coke.
Tempest was explaining to me how difficult it was for a woman to be invisible in a place like this diner because whatever clothes we would wear, we would still attract attention from the male audience. That was when I had noticed that some grown males a few tables behind us were checking us out and catcalling us.
"Don't look at them," she had said, "Don't roll your eyes, don't give them attention or your anger. I know you want to go over there and deck them in the face, I do too, but if you stay here with us and just continue living as if they're not there there's a high chance they're not going to come over. There's still a chance they will, I won't lie but I would rather them than a monster whose attention we would get by starting a fight,"
I had simple nodded and finished my glass of water to calm myself down. She was right, this wasn't easy but I too prefered those jerks to another attack like the one in my apartment. She continued by saying, "If by any chance during this quest you end up walking alone, and let's hope this doesn't happen, you look straight ahead as if you know where you're going and you never stop once. Not to look around, not to ask someone for directions, nothing. You want to be invisible, okay? Some monsters have this ability to blend in, to look human so unless they're us you don't speak to them or acknowledge them,"
