Chapter 18

Gon, Kurapika, aunt mito, and Killua were in a hospital room. Thankfully Killua had no major injuries, he didn't break anything or suffer from much internal damage. "sorry I'm late guys, had to call off wor-" Leorio walked in, then cut himself off with a gasp. "oh my god, what the hell happened?" Killua was currently in the bed passed out, and his face was wrapped in bandages. Gon had told the nurse who was treating him to hide his scars, Killua wasn't comfortable showing them yet. I was so helpless, I couldn't protect him. Gon felt his eyes start to water again and aunt mito put an arm around him. "listen, it's not your fault" he gritted his teeth, "but it was!" Gon said loudly. Leorio looked over at him in confusion. "I-If I hadn't been so weak...or- or even if I didn't tell him to take the long way home!" he put his face in his hands, it was so frustrating! Kurapika put an arm on his shoulder. "Gon, there's nothing you could have done. You're lucky actually, that gang is responsible for many deaths of younger males and females" that just made him feel worse. Killua could have died? "and you did help, you sent me your location so I could find you. If anyone's at fault it's probably me for not getting there sooner"

A nurse with short black hair walked in carrying a clipboard and some medical equipment, then sat down on the chair next to the bed. "why is he still sleeping?" Gon asked worriedly, they had been ushered out of the room for emergency treatment a few hours ago and were just recently let back in. "we had to sedate him, he kept resisting and trying to get away" Gon clenched his fists. "you should have let me stay! He was so scared-" the woman held a hand up. "quiet kid, now where's the parent?" they all looked at each other for a few seconds, then aunt mito spoke. "here" thank you aunt mito. She raised a brow. "no offense, but you don't look related" she nodded. "he looks like his father" she hummed in response. "alright, care to tell me why he has 106 scars in total?" shock coursed through his body at the number. they counted them all? Aunt mito nodded. "his step mother was abusive, he's really self conscious about it and never lets us see them though" she nodded. "now, when checking to make sure he didn't have any brain damage we found something strange" Gon tensed slightly, and Kurapika responded. "he has a form of DID, it's hard to explain but I've never seen anything like it before"

Gon couldn't stop worrying though, what would Killua be like when he woke up? Gon took a step over to the bed and the nurse shot him a glare. "step back kid, when he wakes up he'll most likely be in shock." I know that, that's why I'm trying to get to him! He took a deep breath, then a step back. His step back was at an angle though, so if he ran over it would be on the other side of the bed from the nurse. He quickly glanced around, he wasn't hooked up to anything. Then he noticed how the nurse had some needles. If he freaks out, she'll sedate him again. But it wasn't Killua's fault, he had all sorts of phobias he couldn't control. And he's never been to a hospital before. He tightened his grip on Killua's bag, which he had shoved some of his prosthetic into. As soon as he wakes up I'm getting those bandages off his face, can he even breath? There were a few holes in the bandages on his face, where his nose and mouth were. There was also one bigger hole allowing him to see through one eye. Aunt mito put a hand on his shoulder. "Gon"

He angled his ear to be closer, but didn't look away. Aunt mito spoke in a low tone, "I know that look, but we have to listen to the nurses" Gon stayed silent, setting his jaw. The nurse wasn't looking right now, she was typing something into a computer. Killua twitched, and Gon tensed slightly. None of the other three spoke, probably because they had noticed as well. Then his eye opened, and Gon made his move. He bolted for the bed, making as little noise as he could. Killua's eye snapped over to him and he saw it widen slightly, then he started to reach out a hand. The nurse was starting to turn again, so Gon quickly grabbed the hand and held his breath. She stood up, "Kid I told you to-" she cut off when she noticed that Killua was awake, and definitely not panicking. "shh" he said, and Killua reached out with his other hand and he took it as well. "Mh" he smiled. "you're ok, I'm here now" Killua started to cry and he slipped one of the hands away to ruffle his hair a little. "but he doesn't let anyone near him..." the nurse muttered and Gon shot her a glare. "he's terrified of strangers, especially older women."
