Chapter 15

Kahit anong gawin ko at pilit na magpaantok kagabi wala akong magawa kung hindi bumalikwas sa kama at kunin ulit ang cellphone ko para tingnan ang profile ng assistant ni Chuck.

Kumain lang kami ni Chuck and I pretended to be okay, I pretended not to care na ganoon ang hitsura ng assistant niya.

I just said, "May hitsura siya ha."

Sobrang labas sa ilong! Gusto ko nang magwala kagabi. Higa, bangon, check ng Facebook search sa google... I'm obsessed.

And I'm effing stressed.

Bwisit lang talaga, sa lahat naman ng pwedeng kuning assistant bakit sobrang ganda at sexy pa?

Sana hipon manlang, 'yong may lamang ako, pero punyeta wala eh – mukha akong kulugo kumpara sa babaeng 'to.

It's not fair, Lord naman.

Tsaka wala masyadong hiya si Ate Girl ha, ang profile niya naka-Public.

I'm biting my nails habang tinitingnan ang mga posts niya, bwiset wala akong makitang grammatical errors – syempre Assumptionista maayos mag-English.

Hanggang sa makaupo na ako sa pwesto ko sa office hindi ko pa rin matigil ang pag-sscroll sa profile niya.

I can't get it out of my head, na kasama ito ni Chuck araw araw, oras oras, siya ang nagpe-prepare ng mga kailangan ng boyfriend ko.

"Leche! Leche! Leche!"

Kaka-obsess ko hindi ko namalayan na nasa likod ko na pala si Sir looking at my phone, "Sino yan?"

Muntik ako mahulog sa upuan ko and I look behind me to see Sir Tristan looking smug that he found me wasting my time on Facebook.

Hindi naman siya mukhang galit so I say, "Wala Sir. May ini-stalk lang ako sa Facebook."

Feeling ko ang pula pula ng mukha ko.

He bends down so he's close when he says, "Sino? Patingin nga."

Ang hirap ng wala si Dee, wala akong matsismisan at mapaglabasan ng sama ng loob, nag-alert lang ako kina Jem at sinabing may emergency session kami mamaya nila Cherrie sa isang nearby bar.

At dahil hindi na ako makapagpigil sa bugso ng damdamin ko I say, "Sir! Ito ang bagong assistant ni Chuck!"

As in whining voice, wala na akong pakielam kung isipin niyang para akong bata, but instead of laughing he just takes the cellphone na inaabot ko sa kanya and scroll through Ate Girl's pictures.

Walang reaction si Sir habang tinitingnan ang pictures.

I'm waiting for him to say na, ano? Pangit gano'n? Malabo naman mangyari 'yon.

After a few minutes he hands me back my phone and sits sa guest chair ko.

He says nothing and looks at the ceiling, I get frustrated, I tap my table, "Sir! Ano? Anong masasabi niyo?"

Nagulat siya at tumawa, "What do you want me to say?"

I slump back in my chair, "Ewan ko. Mas maganda ako? Or something na mapagaang ang loob ko. Kampihan mo naman ako Sir."

He laughs again, "I don't know what you want me to say, Andi. But I will not lie to you, she's pretty..."

Punyemas.

Nakita niyang lalo akong nag-deflate so he says, "But there will always be pretty girls. There will always be someone he meets outside of your relationship, but you should be confident enough in your place in his life that you won't get affected no matter how better you think they are."

I blow up my cheeks and he laughs, "Para ka'ng bata."

I sit up and then I bend down to put my right cheek sa table ko and I fake cry, "Gusto ko mag-tantrums! Nakakabwiset!"

I feel a touch on my head and I look up, he's seated naman ng maayos ano 'yon mumu?

He looks at me and lowers his head para halos magka-eye level kami and he says, "Andi..."

Looking at him like this, I realize kung anong gusto niyang sabihin, I mean I am always with Sir Tristan and he's good looking, matalino, mabait, mabango... este masipag, pero I'm not attracted to him like I'm attracted to Chuck.

Magka-level sila ni Chuck, some might say he's better pero I am still loyal to Chuck because I love him, and Chuck is confident enough that he will not think of Sir Tristan as a threat to him, to us.

Sir Tristan smiles at me and says, "Andi, you is smart. You is kind. You is important." Quoting the movie The Help.

And I laugh out loud.

Gago 'to ginawa pa akong special child.

He smiles and says, "Ano? Okay ka na ba? Hindi ka na magmumukmok?"

I sit straight and pout, "Try ko Sir."

Nilagay niya ang kamay niya sa baba niya parang nag-iisip, "Hmm. I can think of a way to help you feel better."

Umusad ako paharap at nilagay ang elbows ko sa table ko, tsismosang tsismosa lang ang dating, "Paano Sir?"

He stands up and walks back to his office, "I'll give Chuck a visit this afternoon."

Dali dali akong tumayo at hinabol siya papasok ng office niya, "What do you mean? Mag-spy ka sa akin Sir?"

He laughs while sitting down on his chair, "I didn't say that Andi, I'm just going to check out your competition."

Naupo ako sa guest chair niya and I cross my arms over my chest, "Hmp. Akala ko ba Sir walang competition? Akala ko kampi ko kayo."

He laughs, "Oo nga sorry. I didn't mean it that way. You're the best, Andi. I'm just saying, I'll check her out and let you know what I think, okay?"

I pout, "Talaga ba? Baka naman kunyari lang 'yan, Sir tapos hindi mo naman sasabihin sa akin ang totoo."

He looks at me and seriously says, "I will never lie to you. I will be perfectly honest even if it hurts."

Nilagay ko ang kamay ko sa dibdib ko, "Nakakatakot naman 'yan, Sir."

He raises his eyebrows as he says, "You'd rather I lie?"

I think about it, siguro nga nag-mi-mixed emotions na ako kasi I feel threatened, talagang natatakot ako sa pwedeng malaman ni Sir. Pero may tiwala pa rin naman ako kay Chuck, sa amin para hindi siya pag-isipan ng masama. Kung gagawin ito ni Sir for me makakatulong ba ito sa amin or palalalain lang ang situation?

I decide that my curiousity wins over my common sense, "No Sir. Sige po, if okay lang can you check and let me know?"

He stands up at lumipat siya sa guest chair sa harap ko and puts his elbows on his knees, "You understand that if I do this, this could either give you peace of mind or make things worse, right? But I'm willing to do it as your friend."

Iyan na nga ang naisip ko eh, pero I'm going out of my mind with all the questions I have so I say, "I know Sir."

I take a deep breath and say, "Go tayo!"
