"I just don't like that she's back," Preston whispered. "It gives me the creeps."
Neil nodded and rolled onto his back, staring at the dark ceiling. "Sometimes, her expression goes blank, and it freaks me out. But what are we supposed to do? Kill her?"
"Obviously not," he said, biting back the actual valid response of 'yes.' "It's like fucking with... Fucking with the cycle of life. It's so fucked up."
"It's disgusting, yeah. I think Harrison thought he was doing the right thing, but it's just not fair to any of us."
"But Max has gotta be happy."
Neil shook his head. "We still don't know if this is permanent, though. What if she gets sent back in a month or something?"
"We'll see, I guess. I doubt that'll happen, though- didn't Harrison bring his brother back last year or something?"
"Yeah. I don't want to get adjusted to having her here again just in case."
"No, I totally get that."
"I'm scared for what the future holds if I'm being honest. Are we going to be babysitting her for the rest of time?"
"Is it weird that we're sleeping in David and Gwen's bed right now?"
Neil sputtered out a laugh. "Well, she wanted Max's bed, so where else would we sleep?"
"There's some cognitive dissonance going on in my brain," he explained.
Neil rolled over to face him again. "Well, we can't have that."
"Would you really rather her not be here?"
Neil felt a headache forming. "I want her here. So bad. That's all I have wanted since she died. But it's not fair to her. As you said, it's fucking with mother nature. Max said she was so scared when she came back. And that's not fair. I watched her get killed, Preston. I have nightmares about it so often."
"I know."
"And Max has been hospitalized four times. And now, she's back, and I don't know what to think. This year has been fucked up, and this just made ten times weirder."
Preston sighed and said nothing. It was one of those rare times when he was silent. He could usually find words for any situation, but Nikki's forced revival was not one of them.
Both of their phones dinged. It was the group chat. Neither knew why people were texting in the group chat in the morning.
Nerris: you know, my grandma always said that jesus was resurrected, and i always thought it was bullshit because that shit isn't real, and now, i sorta believe it
Nerris: judas felt bad and resurrected the mf
Max: :| no
Preston chuckled softly. "I'm going to miss her when she leaves."
"We can go clubbing with your theatre friends now. I'll join you for once."
"We got Nikki back, but we lose Nerris and Harrison."
Neil ran his fingers through Preston's hair. "You'll be okay. You sound tired."
"I am tired."
He leaned over and kissed his cheek. "Goodnight."

The last day of camp arrived quickly, and in a flash, Max, David, and Gwen were clearing everything out and doing one final check before packing up the car and heading home. The summer had gone by so quickly.
